Front end drop
This is my 69 c10. I would like to drop the front end 2in.
A 2in drop front coil spring kit the best way to do this? Thank you |

Drop coil springs will be the cheapest way. If your current springs are old and worn out, its possible you might not notice a difference in height, or the drop springs could even raise it a little. Depends on the condition of your springs. You could also go with drop spindles. Most are a 2 1/2" drop and you can use your stock height springs with them.

Although the truck sits up at about factory height. The best way to lower it is always argued. You can buy 2" drop springs for around $100 or 2 1/2" drop spindles for more $ or you can remove your stock springs and cut off 1 round from the bottom of the spring to get approximately 2" drop. I used a 4 1/2" grinder to cut one coil off mine and bought spindles for about 4 1/2" total front drop. It doesn't affect the spring tension so no worry there. It will align and drive just fine. I strongly advise against heating your springs. You won't be happy with the results.

Spindles or springs will work. If you go with springs, buy a new set. They are around the hundred dollar price point. Do NOT cut them. There is a ride quality difference. I know from experience. If you’re gonna do it, do it right. If you go with spindles, upgrade the disc brakes while you’re at it.

2" coil springs are your only choice if you are keeping the drum brakes. There are no drop spindles available for drums.
If it were my truck I would spend the extra money on converting to disc brakes and use the drop spindles. IME, the drums are completely inadequate for running with modern traffic. I went with ECE for the drop on the front of my '69. And highly recommend them.

Maybe. If you stay with the 6 lug setup you may need to get a set of wheels from a 70's 4x4 truck which will look the same but have additional clearance for the brake calipers.
I converted to 5 lug when I did my conversion because I wanted more options in aftermarket wheels.

Note: with the drop spindle...you will be limited to @ 3.5 bs on a 15" rim! Wheel weights may hit too...depending on how large they are. And you will likely need to trim the rails off of the lower control arms some. But it's easy with a grinder. It's the better choice for ride and geometry in my .02

I just put the ECE 4/6 drop and discs on my 69. Bolted a set of 15" rallies on with no issues. In my opinion I would cut the springs, if you like the look then eventually if you want you can get a drop kit. Its a 1969 pickup the ride quality ain't going to be that noticeable if any.
