Help with my motor and linkage fittments

I am working on a 50 Chevy 3100 Truck. Putting in a Vortec 350 and a new steering column with a column shifter, so shift linkage will be in front of the firewall and behind the engine block. I also have a frame mounted brake pedal, and mustang 2 rack and pinion steering. My question is has anybody ever used this combination and if so how did you do your steering shaft and linkage to clear the engine, since the engine has to sit so far back towards the firewall? Any help would be appreciated. SORRY PICS LOADED WRONG

It may take a while but you should see a few photos and ideas by this evening. Usually they end up using about three U joints and a bearing in the middle to get the shaft to go around the obstetricals.

post a pic of the motor/firewall clearance. from the pic you posted it looks like the motor is to far forward still to mount the radiator and fan. i'm more of a tf guy, but you have less room under the hood than the tf trucks.

Yes as my question says, I still have to set the motor back towards the forewallnin order to get clearance for the radiator. The problem will be the brake pedal interfering coming through the firewall and in the way of the steering column.

Get a pic when you get mocked up. I don't have a vortec but my motor is as close as I could get it, and my trans almost touches bottom edge of firewall. Sometimes that edge has to be modified a little. A lot of guys have gone v8 with frame MC.. I'm sure someone will have a pic or two.

if you are not opposed to some trimming and cab modification you can always cut the cab in the required area for a "hump" in the floor and fab a new "hump" from a steel wheelbarrow shell, a section cut from another vehicle with the right contour or a custom fabbed up piece. unless you want to keep the cab floor stock this would allow room for the trans to clear the floor. like said, wait a minute and somebody may post a few pics of their v8 powered 47-55.1

try this for a read, another AD with an LS swap and IFS cross member. maybe some good ideas, dunno.
