Doors hard to shut
I just installed new door rubber seals and I have to slam the doors so hard the glass on my outer mirror fell out!
They are from LMC Truck. I even drilled 1/8" holes in the large round part to evacuate the air from them while shutting.. any ideas? I have been told to have them shut in high heat (sun) and we have had nearly 100 degree weather here for nearly two weeks and nothing happened.... still a ***** to shut. |

Re: Doors hard to shut
Very interested to see what members have to say. I installed new precision weather stripping years ago after having the inside of my 67 Sub painted.
Doors closed "like a refrigerator" with the original 1967 weather stripping, after replacing the W.S. you had to SLAM them (door alignment was perfect and wasn`t touched during the paint work). Years later I installed the new "push on" version from precision and feels worse. I stopped after the first door. Fit nice, look great but you have to slam the door so hard it hurts your soul...

Best way to eliminate that problem is to move the striker out. Did you lube all of the moving parts inside the door, and the star wheel? That may help if you haven't. If you roll the window down and use a good strong flashlight you can see the door latch & lock, and spray a little penetrating oil on the mechanism. If you decide to move the striker out be sure and mark around it with a fine felt tip pen and only move it about 1/16" at a time. Make sure it doesn't move up or down. LockDoc

Re: Doors hard to shut
I bought the new slip on seals (precision) that vendors have recently started selling and they fit well and my doors close without too much effort.
Another fix, rather than adjusting the striker and pushing the door too far out is to use seaming pliers and bend the offending area of the flange inward slightly

Re: Doors hard to shut
Can you post some pictures? Maybe that will help us solve the issue. I had some issues with my doors closing correctly. But after a day of adjustments to the hinges and latches things work well. My drivers side door only really fits in one spot as it appears the window frame isn't attached to the door correctly. It took about 3 hours for me to get it back in place after painting.
And welcome aboard neighbor!

Re: Doors hard to shut
I had the same problem a few years back with the push on seals. If I would have adjusted my doors they would have stuck out past the body. They were flush and shut fine with the original weather stripping. I actually regretted installing the push on stuff. Tried everything to get them to close better and it didn’t work. Heat, WD40, slits, you name it. My wife couldn’t even shut the door it was so hard. I had to slam the crap of them.
