fuel filler tube vent question

hey, im doing a Boyed side fill fuel tank relocation. I went to the junkuard today and got a fuel door that im gonna weld into the quarter panel. but the fill tube that came with it looks like it had the vent line going inside the main fill tube. I never seen that before. so i pulled another fill tube that has a seperate vent. how can i use the fill tube that came with the door? or should i just fab the other filler to the door? thanks

If it where me id use the vent tube that goes outside of the filler neck, I was thinking maybe that was for the fuel to run down also? Does not make sense to why a air vent would be there.

I did a similar modification. I used a door from a S-10 that I got at a salvage yard. I had to then purchase a new fill neck. I got it on-line for about $30 bucks. I cut it, and formed a curved neck from a 1 1/2 inch exhaust pipe. Coupled that with a flexible fuel hose to the gas tank. Used the vent outlet in the electric pump and hooked it to both the outside vent on the filler neck, and to a roll-over valve I mounted in the stake pocket on the bedside.

Fills a little slow, as I don't really have enough "drop" in the line, but works. Will post a picture of my filler in the bedside.

This is the way mine was done. I believe the filler is the one with the vent coming back into the main tube. Allows air to escape tank as it is filled. Line was pinched and it took all day to fill.
