drive shaft advice
I purchased this one piece drive shaft from a board member came out of a inl6 with a 350. I dropped engine trans in the frame this weekend. The shaft fits yoke catches about 1.5 of the slpined shaft so from my yellow mark on the yoke its a 700r 4 it goes into the tale shaft 1.5 inches leaves about an inch of shiny shaft exposed .....do i need more than that i would hate to have to extend this shaft is there enough on the splined taleshaft ?

Re: drive shaft advice
The yoke needs to be pushed all the way in and then pulled back out 3/4 inch to work correctly.
Nice looking motor! What are you gonna use for a pcv? |

Re: drive shaft advice
Pcv means positive crankcase ventilation.
You need some way to remove the blowby gases and moisture from inside your motor. The blowby gases come from the combustion in the cylinder. Some of the gases get by the compression rings on the pistons. The escaping gases pressurize the crankcase. You need a pcv valve to remove the gases and reduce the pressure. The pcv valve is hooked up to the manifold vacuum port on your carb and is placed in one valve cover. The fumes get reburned when they mix with the fuel vapour going to the cylinders. You also need a breather of some sort on the opposite valve cover that you have the pcv on. The breather let’s fresh air into the motor to mix with the fumes. If you don’t have a good pcv system the crankcase pressure will blow out some of your gaskets. Like valve cover, rear main, balancer seal or intake gaskets. Easy stuff,eh! Here’s some reading with pics. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cran...ilation_system |

Re: drive shaft advice
Drive shaft yoke, I think there is 4"-5" that the yoke can slide into the back of the trans before it bottoms out. If the yoke cleans up it would be better if it was in further....Nice looking project.

Re: drive shaft advice
The yoke engagement will change with the body and bed on it. I wouldn't mess with it till the weight is on the chassis.
