4l60e or 4l80e with stand alone controller... Who has one?
Hi all,
I have been looking for a TH700 out here for a while, they are either rooted and $500 or rebuilt and $4k. Neither of them really interest me. There are plenty of 4L electronic boxes around in good condition for a reasonable price. Which leads me to the question of who has a 4L box fitted and is running a stand alone controller? Trying to decide whether to go this way or put in a 6.2 ls and auto. I would really rather keep it gen 1 with a TH700 but don't feel like paying $4k for a 30 year old gearbox. Recommended appreciated |

Another good option would be to read this ...

Re: 4l60e or 4l80e with stand alone controller... Who has one?
I have a 4L80e in my truck behind a 5.3L LS. Im using the stock computer so I cant comment on the stand alone side of things. As far as an 80e goes, its been great. I did a full rebuild with alto red clutches and Transgo HD2 shift kit. The shifts feel crisp and the overdrive is great on the highway.

I have a 4L80E in my truck behind the original 402. I'm using an aftermarket TCI computer along with their cable drive speedo. If I had it to do over again I'd pony up the $695 for the mechanical tailhousing speedo drive. Computer shifts and operates fine though.

Re: 4l60e or 4l80e with stand alone controller... Who has one?
I do , 4l60 tci controler , trany works good but I hate the 4l60 first gear , revs way too much before shifting to second gear , Ill try and answer any question you have , Do an 4l80 you will be much happier , I have not been thru the advanced settings yet to try and make first shift faster , dont know if that is possable , but the controler works as advertised , this is on a carbed 6.0 width msd spark control , I had to get a separate throttle position sensor

Re: 4l60e or 4l80e with stand alone controller... Who has one?
I was thinking that the 4L80E came in a 6.5 Diesel. I found this.
https://www.thedieselpageforums.com/...ead.php?t=5437 It would allow a standalone GM controller to be used.
