"Longhorn" Script
OK, I have a '70 Longhorn that has a pretty certain SPID, as it hasn't changed in the time it has been in the family, since 1973. So, pretty certain that it is a true "Longhorn". Besides which, how many people have ever "stretched" a short bed truck?
That said, it doesn't have the "Longhorn" scripts on the rear fenders. Upon investigation, after having a new camper shell put on, I noticed that the bed is tweaked about 3/8". Might consider it manufacturing tolerances, but it's pretty obvious that the bed isn't square. I was thinking that maybe the body shop didn't put the scripts back on after the repair and repaint. I've seen where other member have their insignia held on by double-sided tape. Nuts and bolts time- who on here has a "Longhorn" and has had the insignia removed? Do they have pins with corrugated barrel nuts, where they just get a gentle tap with a rubber hammer on the assembly line? Or did 3M actually make a good enough double sided tape back in the day?

Re: "Longhorn" Script
All I know is Sierra and Sierra Grande bedside emblems go on same as other emblems, studs & speed nuts. Been a while since I looked at a Longhorn emblem, but about certain they are the same as the rest. I never saw stick-on emblems until they went to plastic. And even those used studs at first, IIRC.

Re: "Longhorn" Script
I kind of figured that they were put on with nuts, but I'm not seeing any evidence of filled holes. Those emblems on ebay look nice, and the price isn't that bad, but I'll pass, anyway. It's looked like this for the last 45 years since my FiL bought it, and the next owner will be one of my sons, who doesn't care if the emblems are on there or not.

Re: "Longhorn" Script
Mine never had them, though others have argued they were always there. Whatever. No holes, no faded paint. I have no answers as to why.

Re: "Longhorn" Script
My 69 longhorn is 100% original paint and has no holes for the "longhorn" badge either. I always wondered why.

Re: "Longhorn" Script
Monday or Friday at the stamping plant. Since the additional piece gets added later, maybe the regular fenders got used instead?
I don't know if a long-bed fender looks the same as a fender that gets used for a Longhorn, before the extension is welded on. Anyone know anything about that? Does this question even make sense?

Re: "Longhorn" Script
Sometimes just tape. I'll post pic of a Longhorn I had where the scripts were just taped. Pi is on home computer and I'm at work.

Re: "Longhorn" Script
Pretty odd there were only two studs for that length. It's like they wanted to try out using tape. Makes me want to check my Sierra Grande emblem

Re: "Longhorn" Script
very interesting. I'm not used to seeing the little black inserts that are shown in the speed nut bag either.

As promised here are pics of the lLonghorn script. Truck was built in Oshawa and paint was original. Again as we have seen before there were anomalys between plants.

Re: "Longhorn" Script
I sold it to a local guy and he said had all kind of plans for it but haven't seen it since. I know sadly someone will buy a running driving truck and start stripping it with plans to restore and then life gets in the way and thats where they sit and never get back together. I've been dealing for a couple years on a one owner, it was the sellers Dads truck and I remember it at his Dads Texaco Station in the 70's , 72 GMC Longhorn BB with 55,000 miles on it but we are lots of money apart.
