1972 GMC Stepper Long Bed
Just bought the truck yesterday and in process of doing my parts inventory.
Truck is solid very little rust odometer shows 98K. Fun part is It "might" have a later year 327 and front disc conversion has already done. Rotors/brakes are shot in front. Three on the tree shifts as it should and other than needing a good cleaning, seats or a redo, and a few other cosmetic things she is good to go. Quick question--------any "simple" way to tell what rotors/pads I would need? I am going to gut out the interior and spray then put down insulation and put new seals on. Pros and cons on moving gas tank? Plan on buying some kick panels with built in speakers so not really in need of the little bit of room I would gain by taking out tank. Also saw a website that has a one piece side window option and they even offer power options for it. Anybody familiar with this. Jeggs has an engine dress up kit on sale for $179.00 that has quite a bit of pieces, anyone bought that? So many questions so little time. |

Re: 1972 GMC Stepper Long Bed
I tried the "google" on the subject but I just should have started here. So should I assume that it came from the factory with disc brakes then?

OK will take some tomorrow and post. Been real cold last few days but have managed to pretty much complete and purchase all I will need for now at least.
If anyone is looking for parts try RAYBUCK. If you are new they send a 15% off email after you visit the site and no sales tax. Shipping is reasonable. |

Re: 1972 GMC Stepper Long Bed
Some "in progress pic". Changing interior color to tan. have always liked white exterior and brown/tan interior. Ordered new seat covers from Raybuck and will be painting door panels. Do not have enclosed area to work on her so I am itching to get winter over with.

Cool truck, I personally haven't seen too many long steppers in the 67-72 body style. I also like the ladder racks, again unusual to me on a stepside. I would lose the green inside too

Re: 1972 GMC Stepper Long Bed
Have looked up what production numbers there seem to be online and what it looks like is that LWB was a small % with GMC being the lowest at less than 3% of production. have since taken off the rack, will probably sell it if I can. TY for nice comment as the "white elephant" is a truck that you either like or hate because of the body style. Searched the vin and found out it was made in Canada and has a '79 350 in it after looking up code on block.

In my opinion there are NO negatives about moving the tank to the rear!!! Boyds Welding is the best source, my opinion for a "rear" tank. I'm not keen on engine dress up kits. Clean up what you have and paint in Chevy Orange...spend the $$$ where it is needed. There's differing opinions about the one piece door glass. I have not completely researched all that, myself...Would be easier just to buy tinted stock glass, and new door internals... We need pictures of your engine, and the glove box decal!!! Is your bed, a 9 foot bed? or 8 foot??? Way Cool pickup!!! Major congrats!!! |

Cool truck!
I like the green and white inside but tan would look good too.
