Electric fan cost

Why are the electric fan kits on lmc $300-$500 and the gmpp electric fans on jegs only $65 for a 12 inch and $85 for a 16 inch? I'm assuming it's cause of the relays and wiring, but if I'm ls swapping, that will be in my new harness, so I shouldn't need the lmc kit right?

Not sure who's harness your going to use but I know psi doesn't include fan relays....they are extra..
I wouldn't worry about lmc....buy elsewhere...

well, as we all know today, all parts are not created equal.. same applies electric fans.. the 30" oscillating fan in your living room isn't the same as a 30" air mover in the shop..

without seeing the exact model numbers and specs of what you're comparing, I would consider some other factors besides mounting diameter;
elec motor hp
amp draw
cfm output
reversible
bearing life / construction
noise

and for the rest of the installation;
relays
harnesses
mounting style / hardware
shrouds
etc.

several other threads here and elsewhere that have compared specific fan models and assemblies..

remember, reliable heat rejection is the goal so do your homework before buying for best results..

Mongo, I agree about lmc, but had looked at them and when I saw jegs price I looked again at lmc cause I remembered thinking wow that's pricey

I used a brand new Taurus fan and with the relays and other parts for wiring was about $150

I would never use a fan that attaches to the radiator core with those zip tie things. Those are a bad idea for a trans cooler, even more so for a fan since every time the fan starts, the torque is going to put a lot of stress on the radiator core, it's definitely not a long term solution. Also, those fans you linked to are some of the noisiest fans they make which is just a pet peeve of mine, so may not bother you. Personally I would try and find an OEM fan since they are usually quieter and pull more air than cheap aftermarket fans. The Taurus and Windstar fans are good choices since they are roughly the same size as our truck's radiators.

I bolted the Taurus fan to the radiator with some custom metal struts that the metal guy cut for me so no zip ties of any kind and yes it is they exact size of my radiator so it fit perfect.

I guess I have my answer, lol. Was mostly curious why such a big gap in price, and fan noise is a problem for me too, it makes my ears ring more than normal

I know Taurus fans have always been the preferred swap for Mustang guys. I had one on my old notchback and it worked great.

I used a Taurus Fan that I pulled at the Pick An Pull yard $25.00
Made a nice looking aluminum shroud out of a shallow aluminum commercial cooking/ bake sheet from GFS (Gordons Food Supply) $15.00 I bolted the fan to the shroud. then bolted shroud to New Aluminum Speedway radiator. People have no idea when they see it- It looks really good and pulls lots of CFM's. Some of those fans are real fancy and perty but I had too hard of time spending $400-$600 on fan /shroud set up.

For my truck, I used the Windstar fan assy. Paid $30 from the local boneyard. The truck was originally a 6cyl. with A/C, so the radiator was a decent size that I would try for my LS swap (5.3L/4L60E), before going larger, if I had to. I made a simple lower shelf from 3/4" aluminum, that I riveted to the lower core frame, put in two screws to act as guide pins for the Windstar shroud, drilled two corresponding holes in the shroud so that the pins would locate/hold the fan assy. in place against the radiator core. The upper radiator cover already had two threadnuts in place for the stock fan shroud, so I used those to fasten the upper Windstar assy., by making simple L brackets fastened to the shroud. All told, I think I spent less than $40. Even on a hot day in traffic, only one fan has ever turned on (yes the second fan works)

Duals are nice when running an LS . The harness has that extra fan wire that will kick the 2nd FAn on when AC is running . + 2 is better than one if one fails.

The difficult part of sourcing an OEM FAN from salvage is finding 1 or a set that
A Looks Good
B Fits the width of your radiator
C Fits the depth of your engine radiator set up.

Spal is a top quality fan too. Check out their website- lots of options for size and CFM. They wont break your bank account either.

Beware of the shiny bright finished fan shroud packages- Not all are created equal. Do your homework! or you may fry your engine
