55.2-59 Painting the frame and other things.

Has anyone used Chassis Saver paint on their frames? Looks like a good product.

Finally at the point of starting to reassemble. Now my mind is starting to wander. Old Blues build got me thinking. Have any of you made a dump bed out of a short box? Thinking with all the stuff I would haul, having a dump would be nice. Also, does a Double Din stereo insert fit into the dash without messing with the heater or wiper motor on a 59?

So many questions for a Friday night.

I sold Chassis Saver for a number of years and had no complaints aside from it being impossible to get off your skin! It's Por15 technology and does the same thing just for a lot less money because they don't have the advertising budget Por15 spends! Don't try to spray it unless you are very proficient at spraying because it's near impossible to spray correctly.
Use gloves and don't open the can and expect to save any because it's moisture cure urethane and once opened, it will harden in the can and you will not get the lid off if you get any on the lip. Buy 2 small cans instead of one bigger can. A better option is epoxy primer and single stage urethane topcoat, but not everyone can or wants to go to that much effort.

I have painted thousands of gallons of paint in my life time, I give up, I am going to have all my "hard parts" powder coated. The bids I have got are hardly more than the cost of the paint!

For me,
Plenty of time and perfect weather = sprayed epoxy primer
Inside garage painting= POR15 type brush on

Thanks, I'm familiar with the concept of painting it. I own a sailboat and use a similar product to paint the bottom. Thanks for you insight.

I just finished building a Factory Five Cobra a couple years ago. I used a powder coating kit from Eastwood to powder coat all of the small components - easy to use and the powder is cheap. I have an old electric range in the garage to cook the powder coated parts.

I will be powder coating parts of the 53 Chevy truck too.

I have that too but the frame is a bit of a different animal.

Yep, the frame will not fit in my 30" electric range

I have thought about making the range bigger to handle items up to 4 foot long.
