Question Sening unit or not

I need to know how to check a sending unit to see if its bad. How do I do this?

If you don't have a voltmeter you can check it with a test light. Put the test light on the wire that runs to the gage and move the float up and down. The light should be dim at one end and bright at the other end of travel. Hope this makes sence.
