hood emblem
I want to put an emblem of sorts on my truck but on the hood rather than the fender. Since I have one of those cowl induction hoods, I figure I'll place something on each side of it that identifies what's under the hood.
I'm just thinking of doing the DIY stick on letters/numbers off the Net like this site has: www.chromeemblems.com I know originally the engine was noted on the fender with the 8-396 or 8-402 fender emblem. In my case I was thinking of doing something like the following. 396 EFI 402 EFI 402 FI V8 FI Police Interceptor -- Not Cowl Induction -- Not Meep Meep! I've got space for about 6 or 8 characters on the hood there. Any suggestions? Is this just a bad idea? -klb

Re: hood emblem
Something like this is purely owner's preference, but IMO chrome letters on the side of hood scoops or cowl induction hoods look good to me.
Actual engine size is the best choice as opposed to misrepresenting what's under the hood...stating a smaller size CI engine would be fine, but I would not stretch the truth. My 67 mustang has "289" on the sides of the hood scoop (applicable for that year), but it is actually a stroked 289/331. I would look for actual Chevy emblems, even if they are from other years, and try to fit them on, where generic letters are just that...Generic. They do allow for more options in the wording however which makes them cool. You could spell out..."Sick472's Truck" and send me the title...LOL

Re: hood emblem
.
The URL is a little misleading... I'm thinking black numbers and letters against my hugger orange paint. maybe just 402 in gloss black...

Re: hood emblem
I've put the GM car 350 emblems from this era on the sides of a cowl induction hood. i think the original emblems from these trucks would look good

Re: hood emblem
.
Thanks... Look like I'm going to have to either put the original 400 or 396 on there or build my own 402 emblem. Anybody have an Online resource that makes a decent set of number/letters that are good approximations of the GM style that Special-K posted here? Like these 350 emblems? I found billetbadges.com and requested a quote from them but my hopes are not high there as I'm expecting that to cost around 300 bucks Thanks, -klb

Re: hood emblem
I can not vouch for this seller, just an FYI. Ebay plastic numbers...
https://www.ebay.com/i/362240512257?...3D362240512257 https://www.ebay.com/i/391953973797?...3D391953973797 https://www.ebay.ca/itm/GM-402-ENGIN...1:pf:0&vxp=mtr Look at Summit racing for higher quality die cast numbers, but get your wallet out... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/oam-5188a https://www.summitracing.com/parts/oam-5188c https://www.summitracing.com/parts/oam-5188d Once again, I can not vouch for the Summit number's quality, but I'd bet for the money...there are good...they better be and summit is a good company.

Re: hood emblem
Thanks! Those Summit pieces must be top quality for those prices!
I may also just do something like a simple chrome "6.5 L" on there! -klb

Re: hood emblem
The fender emblem "8-400" would look really nice and that is the way chevy denoted there 402's back in the day. It might be a bit much if you already have the fender emblems however.
