Texas trip in the books with parts pics.

Headed out on my adventure on feb 18th. Been very cold and snowy here this winter, was looking to get some place warmer for a bit...
Well, iowa wasn't much better!

Re: Texas trip in the books with parts pics.

Fast forward to Oklahoma. Was about 40 miles from texas when I finally got rid of the snow. Still had a little freezing rain, but just dealt with that. Found a few yards along the way to check out.

Re: Texas trip in the books with parts pics.

Made it to the swap meet in Decatur texas. Was in the 40s, drizzling and muddy there. Quite a few empty spots on Friday yet. Did manage to score some parts there.

Watching the blizzard in iowa and Minnesota for the trip home and figured I should be ok to leave sat am... Bad timing I guess. Up to 60mph cornering winds across okahoma and Kansas knocking my gas mileage down to 6.2. Get into central iowa at 10 am and find out that I-35 is closed. I drove in it a little bit, and turned around only to spend an extra couple of days in Ankeny iowa.

Duncan and Roosevelt are where those pics are from. SW OK. And yes I purchased the gmc from a yard there.

Re: Texas trip in the books with parts pics.

That's a good haul! of parts AND miles. I just drove MN to TX not too long ago (via Indiana for a visit). You managed to hit TX on our once every 2-3 years day long ice rain skating rink extravaganza. There were hundreds of wrecks in the DFW area that same day. It's a sunny 78 deg today

Re: Texas trip in the books with parts pics.

Sounds like a productive trip, if not the best-timed. Oklahoma isn't equipped for clearing ice & snow--I've been stuck there several times. Glad you made it home and didn't get caught in the pileup north of Ames.

Yep, that was no time to be driving in Northern Iowa. Glad you made it home OK and it looks like it was worth the trip. I have been to Pate but have never made it to Decatur. I still plan on making it down there some day.

I was supposed to meet up with a guy that had a bunch of trucks and parts down there but he said there was about 3" of rain and couldn't get to where the trucks were. I didn't get to go there at all.

There were still 47 cars in the ditch within an hour north of me 2 days later when I left.

I hear pate and Decatur are similar. I would like to try pate once, but that is getting into my busy season up here.

Hit 32 here yesterday and didn't even need a jacket! 70 would be about right.
