1970 GMC steering column wiring harness mount
This is my first post the the page. Hope you all can help me out.
I have a 1970 GMC 3/4 ton and Im currently cleaning up all the wiring. I found the steering column harness not attached to anything. In the pic you can see a mounting clip. Where does that go? I unplugged the connectors to see where it might go but no luck. Any got a pic or advice on where to mount? Or does it even mount to the column? Thanks in advance. Electro |

The Turn Signal Switch harness plug runs from under the steering wheel, down thru the column, and connects to a similar curved connection -- usually under the dash near the Light switch. This is for the horn, turn signals, hazard flashers etc.
The bundle should go into the Fuse block.

I think this was the answer you were looking for. The silver metal clip in the plug slides right into the lip just to the left of the column mount. At least on mine it was when I replaced the signal switch. Hope that helps.

No problem Electro. Glad I could help. I know pics are always helpful and mine just happened to be apart after adding my new turn signal assembly. Good time to take a wet rag and clean up all the cracks and crevices. I take a ton of pics so I have reference material when I go to put it back together.

Curious. Why are the plugs curved? Seams like it would mount on the column.

It probably did on some applications, they just used the same plug housing for all of them

It was later superceded by a flat contact strip that required a curved adapter to mate with the underdash connector. Now obsolete, as period-correct turn signal switch assemblies are available for the aftermarket. Although I've had my truck since it was 5 years old, I don't recall seeing that underdash securing clip.

Re: 1970 GMC steering column wiring harness mount
Great info. Thanks all. Im cleaning up a lot of the "messed with" wiring over the years and I was happy to find diagrams here with the original harness wire size, colors etc. It also helps that Im an electrician. LOL!! Its a blast fixing up my truck.
