Hello. 70cst

New to forum , although not an expert I’ve always been a fan of 67-72 chevys. I recently acquired a 70 cst lwb. It’s a one family owned truck with 53k miles. Paint is faded and peeling where copper was sprayed over white on cab. Has one small rust hole in cab corner and one outer rocker has about a 3 inch rust hole , that’s it. Interior is very nice. Sat for a few years but fired right up with fresh fuel and runs good. Truck is all original with the addition of under dash ac. I removed Box to replace wood floor. My vision was to (gulp) cut the frame and bed sides , lower , disk brakes, big inch small block. you know the drill. But now I’m wondering if this one should just be cleaned up and driven or restored original. Has spid and build sheet. I didn’t take a pic of spid yet. 350/350 Posi. Any thoughts ?....

It's yours, do it the way you want.
I prefer stuff that leans toward being original. Disc brakes is a must. You can never have enough power. Lowering and frame shortening are not my deal...however sitting a little lower than stock is cool, that is not notching the frame and such. Your pickup is VERY nice!!!

I’m leaning towards not modifying this cst and looking for another one to “hot rod” I’ve always had an appreciation for original trucks too. Any thoughts on what I could do to preserve as much original paint as I can and make it look decent ? I believe it’s all original paint , when I brought it home I took it to the car wash to blow the grime off and as you can see a lot of the bronze blew off where it was sprayed over the white. Is this how it was sprayed from the factory and has anyone encountered this ? I have a little rust repair to do and will try to keep as much original metal/ paint as I can. Has very little rust thankfully. I don’t mind honest patina at all ; but I need to do something with the cabs paint. Any input/ideas are appreciated.

I do not believe that the factory would have sprayed the bronze over white...(any one?)

Of course whatever you do, you want to try to remove the Bronze with the least aggressive method first.

I am wondering if you can get any more paint off at the car wash?? That would be the easiest and fastest thing to so (if it will work).

My next thought would be to get maybe some 150 grit sand paper and go over the bronze in places to see how easily the rest of it could possibly be removed.

I wonder if some of this paint ordeal was from body shop repairs???

Is the bronze color coming off on all the panels in a similar fashion/ (pictures?)

Just the cab. I thought maybe the factory sprayed the roof and bottom of cab white first , then bronze and for some reason the bronze “realeased” where it overlapped white. Odd that it’s only showing this on the cab though . Original owners family says it never had any repairs .... ????
