Help - Crank but no start
Hey Fellas -
So - she was warming up one morning and as I was two steps away from getting in and taking her for a spin - she just stopped. Cranks over, but nothing more...just a starter grind. HISTORY: Checked and cleaned fuel filter. It was nasty and I thought that was the fuel block. Nada. Replaced Fuel Pump Checked connections under dash and followed with no sign of kinks. NOTE: If I put starter fluid in carb, she will crank, turn, and try to run, but then fails again after a few seconds. Spark issue? Please let me know if you might have any ideas before I flatbed her to my very reliable (but expensive), Classic Car mechanic shop. |

Re: Help - Crank but no start
Are you still a points distributor?
Have you pulled a plug to see if you're getting spark?

Re: Help - Crank but no start
How new is the motor? Sounds to me like it slipped timing maybe, chain stretched?

Re: Help - Crank but no start
If it tried to start with starting fluid it’s a fuel problem not electrical could be a stuck float or clogged jet

Re: Help - Crank but no start
Hey Fellas -
So...it was the fuel pump after all. She was on driveway with a decent incline, and the battery started to fade before I could give it enough juice to let the pump work and get the lines full. Put her on level ground and she fired right up. So...end of day, the pump was failing anyway - so it was not time or money wasted. Just wanted to say thanks for the replies. Cheers, -=RR=- |
