I have been thinking of stretching cab down the middle about 4 inches. question is what about side window glass? I would prefer to stay with safety glass for , well, safety. then thought of redisigning toeboards & bottom of firewall since they may need modification with the Caprice front chassis & frame "Z". anyone done either of these or am I just way to insane?

I NEED LEG ROOM for road trips. I have seen pics of "extended cabs" & just dont think it looks right. JMO

Hmmmm, a "stretched" cab? I can't picture it, but I think it would look different for sure.

Sounds like it would be a lot of work (the box would have to be relocated and the rear bumper, but thats the least of your worries) I think I'd just relocate the gas tank (unless you did that already) and look for a different seat bench or buckets that would have a thinner back support to accomadate more legroom IMO. Doug, I have a seat from a '89 F150 which has a thin back & feels wonderful. the seat is touching rear cab wall. I think about 3 more inches would be just right. I like to stretch out while driving.
ya know, just thinking. my arms are comfy with seat & wheel position. my legs feel cramped near pedals. maybe I should redo the toe-boards. go sit in a '73-'87 once & you will see what I mean. they have more room. Why?

Here is a comparison shot of the pics that 68C15 was refering to.
The upper has the body stretched about 4-5 inches with the stock length bed still intact.
The lower pic is a bit less stretch to the cab (about 3) and the bed shortened, so the wheelbase stays the same. No frame stretch.

This one has been stretched (among other things) but I'm not sure how much. Personally, I think it looks out of proportion. I think it'd be easier to buy a different truck

I think stretching the B pillar would be a less frustrating mod than trying to stretch the cab & doors, & would still give the room needed. i have also seen a couple extended cabs made from a burb body..... crazyL

The silver truck was stretched 6" through the center of the cab. When you see it in person, it's hard to notice @ first glance.

I noticed this last night helping my friend do a compression test on his '84 K5. There's a LOT of room in there!

I would probably go for modifying the floorboards. I think there's room to pull it off down there; I think the only problems you might run into (and none would be THAT hard to fix) would be shift linkage (go to a cable-type or a floor shifter), throttle (again, go to cable), and exhaust (just get creative

)

Jason, all I have to say to that pic is DAMN!!!!!!! someone read my mind. now I need to replace keboard from all the drool. shifter linkage is not a problem. I had the forethought to make a longer column when changing to tilt-telescope-automatic. (dont ask, a LOT of work) spare-replacement cab is cable type throttle (no brainer there) exhaust I am not sure of just yet, may have room.
decision made, I think
