Spare Tire Options
So last week one day, I was being a little stupid leaving a parking lot trying to make a left turn. I stepped on the gas a little too hard, which swung my rear end around quicker than I thought and smacked into the curb, which sheared off a bit of one of my wheels. Feeling that it wasn't the best idea to drive the highway back home that night, someone drove an hour to bring me a spare wheel.
Which gets me to the point of my post: Has anyone tried fitting a donut tire inside their truck? I placed 69 camaro tank underneath my step side bed where the spare originally was, so that is out of the option. Are there any other places to hide a spare on a step side? Here is a pic of the wheel after its run in with the curb....

Re: Spare Tire Options
Sorry about your bad luck. At least someone was willing to bring you a wheel. You bring up a good point though. I wonder if you could put a doughnut, in the cab, where the gas tank used to be. Surely, some one has done it.

Re: Spare Tire Options
I find this post interesting as I'm just putting my truck back together after having it painted. I also have a step side & installed the gas tank where my spare tire was. I did buy 5 new tires, but no sure what to do with the spare. I don't think there is enough room behind the seat, but don't have a donut to try it.

Re: Spare Tire Options
Anyone have any idea what smallest size tire that would work with these?

Re: Spare Tire Options
Why not in the bed like regular people?

Re: Spare Tire Options
I have a camper shell, so I used the internal side mount kit from LMC. I do still have space under the bed, but the carrier is missing, but if I'm out camping the last thing I'm going to do is lay in the dirt to get the spare tire, if I don't have to.

Re: Spare Tire Options
I'm with you Steve, although I haven't sprung for the LMC version. I use two 2" ratchet straps toggling my spare firmly in front of the left side wheel well against the side using the bottom holes in the front and middle stake pockets. Works like a charm firmly clamping a small floor jack behind the tire. Leaves the bed wide open for hauling. I know this isn't an option for steppers but that's why the factory mounted the spares on the left fender? Can also weld in an A-frame in front of the grill and mount a spare there, but that wouldn't "look cool?"

Re: Spare Tire Options
I put my full size spare in the box, but I never really hauled anything (except me).
