Drum brake backing plate - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi all, found my rear drum backing plate has groves/gouges where the shoes ride. Do I need to replace the backing plates?

Unless it is rotted or beaten beyond use, I would re-use it. New shoes, new wheel cylinders, and new springs are all that is needed in most drum rebuilds. If you can, you should post a picture, so we can give you a better judgement.
