Jack crank and lug wrench: Is this how it sits?

Based on searches this is my best guess at how a ‘68 jack crank and lug wrench get installed. But the lug wrench isn’t held tight and can bang around, so am I missing something to hold it down? Does it go somewhere else?

Glad you asked. I just changed my gas tank and was wondering same thing. I couldn’t figure out a way to get the spring tight to hold things securely. Subscribed.

2 questions about this please:

• Can somebody post a photo of their jack crank and lug wrench secured in this manner? I am not understanding it enough from the assembly manual drawing.
• Are these 3 parts plus the spring available from somewhere so I can add to my truck?

If it helps thinking I have one maybe two of the "hooked" brackets PN # 10 as in Leon's picture. Have to check the parts stash if anyone is interested in them.

Well there's lots of 10's in the picture. Do you mean you may have just a couple of one part of the setup, the part that you hook the spring onto?

Yeah, poor wording on my part. Just the part that the spring hooks into. Can look later today and will post pics of what I have when I do find them.

What year is your truck? That setup is for the '67 & '68's only. The '69-'72 trucks tools were stored in a bag in the corner of the cab like in this thread.

My truck is a 69. So I was thinking of graduating from the bag to the hold down thingy, it seems like it would be better.

Should work, you just won't have the raised bosses for the handle and lug wrench to sit against. If you have trouble with them sliding you could double face tape a piece of metal bar for them to sit against..

That doohickey is the ring that gets hooked by the bracket. It has a double finger pull to keep you from getting your fingers caught in the ring when you go to hook it. I haven’t tried putting this together when the seat is in place but I think it must be an awkward exercise.

My 70 model has it all in a tall white high density foam bag with a tie at the top, I have seen several other on here with the same bag.

There is no way on earth my seat will go far enough forward to allow me to fit them there, I can only just get my arm behind the seat to grab a rope or tie down strap.

I wish my seat would tilt forward

As I mentioned in post #12 it is for the '67 & '68 trucks. The '69-'72's used the bag. The '67 & '68 trucks seat doesn't move forward far enough to make it easy either. You just have to dig them out. That's why they are never there, because no-one ever put them back under there....

Well sorry to have brought up the possibility of the brackets now. Looked and looked thru the parts stash and came up dry. Quite possibly sold the ones I had at a swap meet some time back. I had a lot of odd use brackets and such in a box and quite a few items were sold after people digging thru the box. Sorry I got your hopes up.

Thanks. You folks have given some considerations to think about. I need to decide whether to get or make a bag, or do this spring tie down thing. This thread is fantastic documentation and pictures about the option.
