Lug Nut Caps?
Guys, I have never had to change a tire on my old truck, i was in there today trying to change to a spare and noticed the lugs seem to have caps on tehm they rattle loose and are almost 1 inch. Do I pop those off to get to the real lugs? I tried to pop them off lightly with a screw driver but they didnt budge. I dont wan to pry too hard without checking with you guys first.
thx

Re: Lug Nut Caps?
They don't sound like factory lug nuts. Do you have a pic?
Later model Chevy trucks have center caps that are held on by plastic threaded nuts that thread onto the real lug nuts. Maybe you have something like that...

Re: Lug Nut Caps?
Here is the picture, they look like full lugs but they rattle around on the nut.

Re: Lug Nut Caps?
Those are from a later model. GM and others used them to dress up their wheels. the caps are supposed to stay on the lugs but after years of tire changes they loosen and rattle. You can replace them with real chrome lugs if you want to keep that look.

Re: Lug Nut Caps?
In the 60's and 70's GM used a lug nut with Chrome caps. I would replace them with after market solid chrome lug nuts if you are worried about staying stock.

Re: Lug Nut Caps?
Do any of you know the size for sure? 15/16 or 1 inch?
