Fiberglass hood for 73-87 ?

Can anyone recommend a good cowl induction hood for a 73 C20 ? I saw that unlimited products has one, but have gotten mixed reaction about their product in the past.
Anyone using one with a good fit not needing too much prep ?

I think that mine is a Harwood. Its probably about as good as it gets for fiberglass fitment. There was just a little filing where the hood meets the cowl.

I have heard good things about www.advantagefiberglass.com Their prices are reasonable too. There were a couple of members on here who bought from them and said the hoods were great.

Harwood makes a nice hood. I have had a couple of theirs, with no problems. Something to consider, there is not really a whole lot of weight difference between a steel cowl hood and a fiberglass one. A steel Goodmark hood is probably cheaper, too.

im going to disagree. when i was working at the dealership, i ordered several fiberglass hoods for customer vehicles. Cervinis, US Body, Harwood, A&A(?, used to be advertised in Hot Rod) and Advantage Fiberglass hoods. not only were they typically cheaper to purchase, but they were also better quality than the rest of them. you can find them here. http://homepage.mac.com/graphicad1/a.../Products.html

My Harwood is a great fit and it has been on the truck for 8 years. Good design and strength.

I don't trust fiberglass, always go steel, it's an easy fix compared to a rock chip in fiberglass

Man at $450 plus $30 for the springs and shipping, the Harwood is not looking like much of a bargain. I think I'll stick with steel and live with the extra lbs.

maybe im just very fortunate, my family is full of fiberglass workers. many of the ideas you see on fiberglass truck caps today were thought up by either members of my family, or people we know.

nope, dont have a shop, nor the facilities to build molds. several of my uncles and my dad worked for Leer, 20th Century Firberglass, Snugtop, Ranch Fiberglass, and other non-truck related shops in the area since the late 60s/early 70s. if you've ever had a truck cap, and it had an aluminum or steel rail (part that mounts to the bed rail) that was a product of my Uncle Jerry's imagination. they used to use wood wrapped in 'glass to make the rails. the problem was the wood would rot out, and leave you with an unstable mounting flange. my uncle came up with the idea of using aluminum, 20th Century was the first to do this.

If you are driving close enough to get rock damage, big enough to break a fibreglass hood, then you need to get a steel one. I don't make it a habit to follow people, they follow me, even crappy hopped up Mustangs.
