That's a puzzlement. The booster is having some effect on the master cylinder when you have vacuum. Obviously, I'm not an expert, or I'd give you the answer.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

so I got in some time today. what ive found so far is that the push rod from the booster to the m/c was adjusted too short. with the m/c bench bled & mounted & the ports plugged I had about 7" of pedal travel. after playing with the adjustment - 4 tries - I now have right at 3" of travel. so tomorrow I will hook up the lines to the m/c, bleed the system and see what happens.

I have the same issue. I neglected to adjust the booster pushrod when I installed the system, and now I'll have to take it apart. Grrr... My brakes work great, just more than optimal pedal travel.

I couldn't believe it. Hurricane Dorian stalled our Ohio weather and we got 5 near-perfect days. The 10-hour work days about killed me (in addition to the honey-dew list), but I'm a lot farther along than I had planned to be.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I got a complete custom exhaust done on the '48 yesterday from the manifold to exiting behind the rear wheel. I made sure it didn't interfere with the dump bed. I got tired of the coke can and hose clamp repair job on the pipes connected to a 70s era cherry bomb noise exiting right under the cab, lol.

Yep, I have three go to rigs depending on what I need. 70 Camaro Z28 for engine stuff, 74 K10 for drive line stuff, and 59 truck for cab related.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

spent some time yesterday & today on the truck brakes. bench bled m/c & installed it with both ports plugged. had to adjust the length on the push rod between the m/c & booster. got that done & have about 3" pedal travel with a hard pedal both with the engine off & running. that's progress. hooked up the front brake line & tried to bleed the front brakes. found one bleeder screw was plugged. swapped that out & now still have a firm pedal with the engine off or running. that's major progress.
started to plumb the rear brake lines, but found I need one 12" length of brake line. I don't have one & my local parts house is out of stock.
so - time to call it a day & watch the Seahawks - Bengals game. GO HAWKS !!!

Took wheels off and worked on cleaning more rust and crud off. At some point I’ll need to determine what I’ll replace them with. Went to a car show at In & Out, so dinner was great.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Thanks Bob.
This site is full of very nice trucks and many great ideas. Lots of talent out there.

Today I dumped the break in oil and put in some Lucas hot rod oil, put in new plugs, and completed the wax job I started yesterday.

Same here, '75 Nova front end components, Mopar 8.75" diff, '74 454 out of a truck and '58 body and glass. You have to know what you need and keep it simple. There's a couple good parts places nearby with experienced counter people that seem to understand when I'm trying to find oddball parts.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

It's been cold and rainy since last Saturday so I spent a few hours cleaning after being caught in the rain. I also tweaked the driver side door solenoid, hopefully it will work 100% of the time now. Time will tell...

Ha ha, this would make an entire thread: What type of vehicle do you tell the parts counterperson that you have?

Me:

Front suspension components: 1974 Mustang II V8 AC

Rear suspension: 1968 Chevelle 396 ci V8

Engine & trans: 1968 Camaro

Body: 1949 Chevrolet

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

so tonight I got the missing brake line for the rear brakes bent & installed. blead the rear brake lines. with no vacuum from the engine, the pedal is nice & hard. drops about 3". with the engine running & vacuum to the booster, the pedal goes right to the floor.
Now what im wondering is 1st, how do you tell if there is a check valve in the rear port & 2nd, if there is a check valve and I add another one in line will that cause problems?
Right now I have a Willwood check valve in both front & rear lines.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I chased a similar problem and finally found the check vale on the brake booster was bad( small plastic valve connected to the vacuum line). Try removing it and you should only be able to blow through it in one direction.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

ok, I couldn't wait until tomorrow, pulled the booster check valve. I can blow from the booster side but not the vacuum side. Im thinking I may have to take the pressure valve out of the rear line. Si I'll try that. thanks for the idea.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

ok, so a little more time on the brakes. I removed the check valve in the rear line thinking if there is a check valve in the m/c & the one in the line, that may be causing the problem. Re bled the rear lines. With the engine off, the pedal goes down 3" & is rock hard. Start the engine & the pedal goes to the floor.
So for now, the truck gets parked until I have more time to work on it. Its very annoying.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

so I tried another idea. Disconected the front line at the m/c & plugged that port. Left the rear line connected.
Pushed the pedal with the engine off. it went down 3" & was firm. started engine, pushed pedal & it went to the floor.
Now im wondering if the m/c doesn't have enough volume in the rear chamber to make the rear brakes work.
Any thoughts?
