Question about headliners (original types)

I have a question about factory style headliners and thought I'd ask here since I did not have one to examine in my '68. I know the ones I see for sale are vinyl covered and padded with what I would guess is a thin layer of foam. What is the base material of the headliner itself? Is is a thick cardboard, or other material? I am guessing that is is slightly concave to fit into the ceiling of the cab. In any event, the wheels are turning again in my head for customizing one, and thought the best approach was to deconstruct the cover of one for my idea, using the base material - perhaps a used one that didn't have to be in the best of shape. the experts will chime in with what OEM was, the one I took off of my 71 had a thin green polyester under the vinyl. Might have been foam 48 yrs ago. Good quality cardboard ( about 1/8" thick ) vinyl wrapped around the edges.

It is flexable enough to bend, its really some kind of fiberboard, not cardboard. To bad your not closer I have a parchment one I am not using.

Dunno if this helps. Stock headliner. Not molded to fit contour of roof, looks like they just glue the heck out of em. Very thin foam glued to it, and the vinyl is glued over that. The last pic makes it look thicker than it is. I think if you compare to the others you will see what im talking about.
