Where is the Rear Brake Adjustment Window 69 C20 ??

Went to remove the hub-brake drum assembly on my '69 C20 coil spring HO52. Going to have to backoff the brake adjustment to get the assembly removed. There is no brake adjustment window anywhere, none on the backing plate, none on the brake drum. No knockout plugs anywhere either. Wondering if the brake drums are replacements and the originals had the windows?? Would one of you possibly have an image of an original and the window location?? I'll just cut a window if I know the location........

My '72 K20 was the same. We had to fight to get the shoes off, then drill holes in the backing plates for future access to the adjusters. The holes have rubber plugs in them now.

Re: Where is the Rear Brake Adjustment Window 69 C20 ??

Here's a picture of mine, also a '69 C20 coil spring H052. I don't recall ever replacing the drums, but to be sure I'd need to check the receipt file. The truck has 119,XXX miles and most miles were highway.

Hope this helps.

That's perfect, thank you! Wondering if the knockouts are there and I just can't see 'em with my old eyes (laughs...) I'll take a close look tomorrow and if there are no knock outs I'll just cut a couple adjustment windows to duplicate yours.

Good luck with it Steve, I hope you find some knockouts. Mine absolutely did not have them.

I can't really tell, could be just a "pattern" in the dirt.. Is that a knock out plug at about the 9:00 position??

It isn't really a plug because it isn't cut all the way through. They just mark the location.

You were correct, those plugs would positively not come out! Had do use a torch on both of them to get them out, only to find both drums were junk. Now I’m finding how difficult it is to find rear drums for a 69 HO52 ........

Steve............try this place in California for your rear drums and brake components. Go to www.inlinetube.com and take a look.
