Re: Anyone have this happen?
Everything I have read shows that the lower bearing and the neutral safety switch is different. Let me go out to the shop and measure the diameter and length.

Looks like the diameter is 1.171" and the length is 30 7/16"

Re: Anyone have this happen?
I worked at Mare Island Shipyard from 86-91 and spent most of that time working on the 683 overhaul and extension. It was hard work but I felt I was doing my part during the cold war. I worked on many others including the final paint job on 575 to make it look nice for the decommissioning ceremony. It was a sad day to see the yard close, so much history!

It was probably a good thing the decommissioned the 575, she was getting old and it sucked to have to walk around the reactor instead of over it like on the latter models But all in all, I had a great time at Mare Island and on those boats.

Re: Anyone have this happen?
Yep, still interested. When ever you get the time, let me know.
I had a few people email me about parts (not from this site), but some reason they are all trying to retire from the sale of those parts. Either that or I really have no idea what used parts are going for these days.

I completely understand, when I'm close to getting something running I forget a bunch of stuff also.

Re: Anyone have this happen?
I wish, just bought 8 new injectors, since 5 of the 8 new injectors decided not to work, they can't be more then 2 years old and never ran, just sat on my engine in the workshop. no sense crying over spilled milk, just part of the hobby....
RANT OFF If you need a tracking number PM me

Re: Anyone have this happen?
Let's be clear this is not a pot metal piece. It is a rough cast piece of mild steel that has been stamped, surface heat treated on the stamped area. Then the center was bored to size and holes drilled and tapped for the locking bolts. Welding it is not a problem.

I would hazard a guess that sometime in the past the piece was stressed and a crack developed. Then when you dropped it the previously cracked piece broke. Maybe it got bent at the factory and bent back then installed.
