Re: GM Semis
That is quite a unique build in that last truck. All about the haul with a place reserved for the operator and controls... a phone booth for two!
I'm on a newer computer and fresh out of pictures. My old 'put power jack failed. I'm waiting to get together with a friend more savvy than me to open it up and splice the power cable in. I want my pictures!

Re: GM Semis
Great pictures.
A Cummins 903 in the Wrecker? What no Detroit, lol. Like the Chevys on the Assembly Line. 1970 or a little newer Chevy 80 or Chevy 90 trucks.

Re: GM Semis
I have never seen an Astro 95 with a snow plow! And I thought the long wheelbase tandem axle Astro stakebed my company had was unique. No, never got a picture of that one.

Re: GM Semis
Some nice looking trucks there.
That '62 C-80 is pretty interesting. Sure looks like a Straight Front Axle under it. The '62 GMC 6500 got one, but I believe it's been said that the Chevy didn't get one till '63. May be they were available both ways in '62 ??

Re: GM Semis
X2 ! Thanks 5T for posting these photos. Can never see enough of these. The I beam became a new heavy duty option on the Chevy 80 series in '62, then became a standard in '63 when the torsion front end was eliminated. Now I'm wondering if I beams were used on heavy duty '60 an '61 GMC's with the conv. cabs. Like the Budd wheels, must be a 409 under the hood !

This was a discussion we had for many years, many years ago. Some said "no truck" got them till '63 and I was a stubborn hold-out saying this was incorrect since I had one, lol. Some said I had the year wrong, it can't be, etc. But at one point, it was proven to be true, by brochures produced as well as other owners and mechanics having and working on them, but the 6500 model only as mentioned, starting in '62. That said, I also mentioned the question of the '62 C-80 Chevy. It's still not proven either way, as far as I have heard anyway, if all or just some had them. They could have been an "option" to have them either way, where with the GMC the only way to get a 6500 was with one. If anyone out there has more info on the Chevy, please post.

Reading further, I see that they offered 3 Front Axles for their Heavys. A Standard Torsion Bar, a Heavy Torsion Bar and the I-Beam. Info on it can be found here on pages 56, 61, 62 and 64. The whole 149 pages are all quite interesting: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf
