I have never used a stock tach and HEI distributor and needed a filter. Do you have an original tach or a repro one. Have you had it all installed to see if it actually works or not? I haven't been following all of your posts so not sure. I have read about guys having problems and some of them have been caused by aftermarket ignition modules in the distributor or bad grounds.

Re: Tach filter for HEI connection

Been searching on the best option also to put in a reproduction tach or a aftermarket tach that will fit in the space where original tach would go. Looks like a lot of people have had luck with reproduction tachs and hei.

Tach is original. I just want to do it right the first time around. Maybe it’s not needed? Or if it’s an issue I will just deal with it down the road.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I've never needed anything but to hook it straight up. Run em for over 20 years like that.

Re: Tach filter for HEI connection

I have only heard that with the Petronix III ignitor module that the tach won't work.

Hi Brian,

Normally not needed and the tach should work just fine for you.

For what it is worth, I would be curious to see exactly what a filter does for you. All they are really for is to clean the signal line. It prevents electrical interference from other nearby wiring.

The filter will not fix a tach that does not read correctly.

Hope this helps.

Re: Tach filter for HEI connection

Thanks for all the feedback. I’m installing without a filter.
