First look at the pictures section on this web site. There are books out there that cover the basics but many of them are full of misinformation.

I’ll get the ball rolling on this topic.

67 VS 68

Painted hubcaps changed background color from white to grey.

Side markers added in 68

Many 68’s have white face with extra chrome trim around the front of the hood and fenders.

Small back window was dropped in 68. (In 67 the small window was standard-Large window optional)

396 BB was added.

Changes in Custom, CST packages (That topic is in itself a couple of paragraphs long!)

283 SB became 307 SB

327 became large journal,

Smog pumps added for certain models.

Longhorn model introduced mid-year.

Design of arm rests changed.

68 VS 69

Blazer Model introduced.

A New Chrome grill with large horizontal divider/Less sloping front edge of hood.

Steering wheel went from 3 spoke to 2 spoke design.

Interior/seat designs changed somewhat on the CST’s.

Design of buckets changed. Middle jump seat became a console.

Chrome wheel cover design changed.

327 SB became 350 SB

Design of rear view mirror changed?

TH350 introduced in small block and I6 trucks? TH400 carried on in BB trucks?

Hubcaps changed again?

Side trim design changed. Trucks now can have upper, lower or both trim.

Different two-tone color combos introduced.

Speed Warn option Dropped?

3-Speed OD Dropped?

69 VS 70.

Design of inner grill changed slightly.

70 Last year of Panel model?

70 VS 71

5 lug wheels (1/2 ton) and front disk brakes introduced (Standard at this point. Was optional in late 70?).

Design of Grill Changed again. The horizontal divider is gone. A hashed design grill replaces it.

Parking lights went from grill area to bumpers.

396 became 402? somewhere in here.

CST becomes the Cheyenne Super package (In trucks only. CST carried on in Blazers.)

By now the trim levels are Custom/Cheyenne/Cheyenne Super.

71 VS 72

Rear view mirror is now mounted on windshield.

At some point power steering and the TH350 became available on 4X4’s (70-71?)

This is all off the top of my bald head. I know there are a ton of other little changes that happened over the years. I’m sure others will add too and correct what I’ve said here.

I had some tell me they could tell that the bed on my 71 wasnt the correct one, by the body line, how it sloped down towards the rear, is there any truth to this,
I was wonder the same thing myself, about the minor changes in body styling
