Checked the VIN on door and spid. Looking good for originality! Sorry, did not mean to hijack the thread. Just excited about the truck, the more I look the more I like.

Re: 327 pictures
FWIW, if you're referring to engine originality in your comment - it's worth noting that none of us can prove engine originality with certainty in this era of trucks with a VIN, SPID, or engine suffix code (unless one is THE original owner and knows it for a fact) - we can only decode after the fact that a particular engine "could have been original." VINs only tell us if a truck was originally equipped with a V8 or I6 - and SPID RPOs only highlight if an 'optional' engine in either of those categories was installed originally. Having said all that - because I don't completely trust all the decoding material floating around out there to be gospel, I'm inclined to agree with you that the engine is likely original - but I do show that VO316YV decodes to a 16 March Flint-built 68 327 for a C10 with a manual trans (whereas the SPID shows it was originally an automatic trans truck). I'd say it's too much of a coincidence to NOT be the original engine - but you just never know in this era before partial VINs were stamped on the engines.

Re: 327 pictures
Yes, I am finding that out. On my 73 Camaro, I was able to check transmission, engine and even body for hidden vin stamps that proved the born with drive train. No way to do that with this truck. Too bad, but it is what it is. I am the third owner. The second owner says it's original drivetrain but as you mention, it seems no way to really prove it.

one question regarding evidence: If you have the original protect-o-plate there the engine ID is stamped ( and the carburetor manufacturer too C Carter, if this is matching with the number on the engine block the chance to have the right one is higher, right, at least you have an engine from the same assembling day in the same assembly plant for the same purpose right? And in the build sheet you can find at least which engine suffix -YV and which carburetor - 8213) Happy to hear your opinion? ( Hope not to high Jack the tread too).

Re: 327 pictures
where would this protect-o-plate be located? Never heard of this ID tag. If tag matches engine then id say it's original.

Re: 327 pictures
Protect-o-plate is not a part in the truck, it was issued to the original owner at purchase as an ID means for warranty work etc. They usually sat in the glove boxes with other paperwork but most have disappeared over the years as the trucks trade hands, but yes they a nice chunk of documentation to have for any truck.

Re: 327 pictures
Were there an other places the build sheet went? My truck is fairly original but yet when I took the seat out for what I could imagine as the first time, I didn't see a build sheet anywhere. So did they put it anywhere else or did it just desinagreat?

Re: 327 pictures
My truck had buddy seats and I never found a build sheet anywhere and I'm doing a frame up on a pretty much untouched truck. Some must been thrown out.

Re: 327 pictures
I'm back with another question. Can someone give me the part number off of their lower radiator hose? Mine gets a kink in it when I put it on and I'm guessing I ordered the wrong hose. It is for the same engine that I asked for pictures of a while back on this post. Thanks to all that reply

Re: 327 pictures
I can check and see if lower hose has part number on it later. I am sure it's not the original lower hose.

Re: 327 pictures
mr.mud1, 67 Impala Wagon!!!, I would swear it was built just a strong as a C10 Suburban. My dad built his basement and other projects for our home with all the materials he got from RICKOLS and elsewhere with his 67 327 also 275 hp 400 turbo 4 barrel 4 door Caprice, yeah you name it, bricks blocks plywood paneling two by fours sheetrock fencing even cow manure every year from the farm for the garden. That car was a daily driver for 13 14 years. The motor was rebuilt now sits in a friends 66 Corvette running fine. I kept the original script valve covers from there car which I now have on my 67 327 in my 67 truck project Yes sure would like to see some pics and more from others, will get pic's of mine up on here soon.
Thanks all. |

Is there a coil spring inside the hose? If not there should be, that keeps it from kinking or collapsing when it is hot. Not saying you don't have the wrong hose though. LockDoc

Re: 327 pictures
Yours and my 68 goldens must have been owned by relatives . I haven't taken the seat out yet to look for the build but I have a stack of receipts and the paperwork including the protectoplate. The engine # in mine matches the plate also
