Drop Spindles & Track Width
Hi All,
Been a long time since I've been on here! Does anyone know FOR SURE what drop spindles are out there that DO NOT change track width? It seems many drop spindles will alter track width. I believe that CPP has a 2" drop modular that doesn't change track width. Are there any 2.5" out there that don't alter track width?? I have an old school drop on my truck......dropped A-Arms and springs and am finally getting around to fixing that so suspension geometry is better. I cannot change track width one bit since my wheels have specific offsets. I figure I have about a 4-4.5" drop in the front. I've had this truck for so long that I don't recall the exact specs of the drop and want to keep it exactly as is. Thanks for any help.....Jim

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
As far as I know the CPP 2” modular spindles are “suppose” to have the narrowest track width for a disc brake spindle. It’s never been proven to me.
Wilwood also has a new spindle for the C10 market. Still no info on track width.

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
Your choice it to pick a spindle and if it’s too wide either:
1) run different backspace wheels Or 2) buy narrowed a-arms.

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
Check the CPP CP4S4 2 1/2" drop . They are advertised to NOT change track width . I got mine thru Summit ($259.00) and found them listed by CPP on Ebay for $215.00 So I called Summit and they price matched them and had free shipping .

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
Hi if you go to the CCP catalog the modular spindles are 2 1/2 drop. You will need to purchase the caliper plate if your using GM calipers & 12 x 1 1/4 HD rotors. They are not suppose to alter track, I bought for my 60 c-10.

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
I just bought the Wilwood Pro Spindles and didn't even think about track width. Ill be able to check this weekend. That's when I pick up my chassis.. it still has stock suspension. If it does change it ill just order the 1" narrow arms when it comes time to.

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
Well thank you sir! I surely don't mess with it as much as I used to and it sits most of the time......keep telling myself I need to get it out more!

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
I'm not 100% on this, but to my understanding, the drop spindles don't change the track width on 71-72 trucks. It does change it on the 67-70 trucks that originally had 6 lug drum brakes.
The standard disc brake setup on the 71-72s had the wider track width due to nature of the brake setup. This is why the 71-72 rearends were wider as well. Anyone is welcome to prove me wrong and I won't be upset with them.

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
Thanks a ton for the info guys......reminds me to be more active on here again since everyone is so helpful!
My plan will be to go with the CPP 2.5" the "Grumpy" suggested and I will also be replacing my old school stepped A-Arms with lower tubulars from either POL or CPP.....they both are in the +$500 range (anyone have experience with one or the other......opinions appreciated) I think I will also have to change sway bars to work with the new tubular lower arms. I'm sure on the POL arms but not sure on the CPP arms.....again....any experiences? Going to go with new 2" drop springs as well so hoping drop will be similar to the way it sits now as I have no rubbing issues at all and ground clearance is just fine. Total drop would be 4.5" so I'm concerned it may to too low....we will see. Would appreciate measurements (mid fender lip to wheel center) that anyone has so I could nail this down. Right now I'm at 14.5". Finally new shocks.....opinions appreciated again! Right now I have 30 yo KYB gas-adjusts on it that believe it or not, seem fine but I would like to put some new shocks on. Would love to do Bilsteins but they are so damn much $$ and I'm just probably gonna buy new KYB's again.

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
Ive had the cpp spindles and they didnt change my track width. As 4 the sway bar, I ran theirs as well. I will tell u that I drilled a small hole n the mounts and put n a grease fitting. They used the poly bushings and u will need to keep some grease on them or they will squeak. The tubular arms I have now are not cpp but I can say they are stronger than the factory stuff. Looking at your photo, the ride height will b close to what u got. You look like u have close to, if not a 4/6 drop.
Jim I have a question for u. Your tire series was a 55 if memory serves me right. As time has went by, some of the 18 in tires are hard to get. I was wondering if u have had trouble getting your old size or have u had to change to something different? |

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
Thanks for the info.
Still have same tires on it. The fronts are 255/50/18 and rears are 275/55/18......and yes, gonna be hard to find the rears when the time comes....especially if I want all tires to match. Quote:

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
I have the ride tech upper and lower. The big difference I see in them and some of the others is they have 8 degrees alignment where others only have 4. I can say they are well made here n the US. I changed my front end from the cross member out to the wheel. Even the steering linkage along with the gear box and steering shaft. I feel you on the tires. I don’t want to go to much bigger. I have a 3.73 and I don’t want to get so big that it turns in to a 3.42 due to the tires.

Re: Drop Spindles & Track Width
You must have their coil over setup? I don't see on their website any control arms for standard springs.
