Jim, Since Eve enjoys doing her own work I showed her the technique you used on those panels. She said her instructor at school didn't even teach them something that handy! My question is where do you purchase that large of amount of magnets at a reasonable price? Your unique way of doing things and showing us how you did it has helped us a lot. I can only thank you my friend! Ray

Hope this finds all my truck buddies and their family doing well, during this covid-19 mishap.

Had a couple things pop up on my truck that I wanted to correct. I noticed a few weeks ago when I had the truck out, that my fuel gauge would read 3/4 then down to 1/2 then back to 5/8, it was all over the place, and not because of the road. The new fuel gauge with it's larger sweep, made this noticeably more that with the old small sweep gauge. So I ordered a new tube type sender, to change from float style.

2nd item my gas tank was put in wrong (stupid me). It bolts in from the top, which means all the bed wood has to come out to install new sender. This will be changed while its apart.

2rd item was bed wood, after 16 years of sun, rain, etc., it was showing it's age, and needed some TLC. I really like the way Marks bed wood looked with the burning, so while the wood is out it will be changed.

I've done most of the work already, have taken pics and will start posting, later today...Jim

I love the burned in grain on the wood in my '49, it definitely has "that" look!

At my age (74) it's slowing plugging along I did mine also, will show up in a few.

Ok time to update with pics. Started late on thurs 4/9 taking out the wood and finished up Fri 4/10. Here you can see 16 yrs of road grime and dirt.

The next 5 pics are of the oak wood boards, with the grain showing no protection from over the years. One board I had started sanding...Jim

On sat 4/11 I sanded all the boards down, start with 40, then 80 and stopped at 120 grit. I also finished removing the bed strips. This is a 54 bed so, it has two bolts that hold each strip, one in the cross sill and one in the front bed panel. Also noted that some stuff made look different since it's a 54 bed mounted to a 50 frame...Jim

In the last pic you can see the aluminum strips I use in the spots without cross sills, this holds the boards better that the large washers that come with most kits...Jim

After watching church service on Easter Sunday, I went to the shop and cleaned up most of the dirt, still have more to do. In the third pic you can see how the gas tank is bolted to the additional cross member I installed, this will be changed...Jim

Mon 4/13 Mark did his thing and burnt the wood, then I cleaned off the soot, etc. and he sprayed POR Mat clear on the wood. Came out great I didn't take pics till Tue 4/14

On Tue 4/14 I also pickup up new metal for a new crossmember for gas tank.
Now my tank can't move from it's current location, it has to stay where it's at, due to wood above the tank (very little clearance) and the exhaust below, can't get it any closer that it is.

So we placed a long board under the jack to hold tank in place. I made up the new crossmember and painted it black. Mark cut out the old crossmember and then welded in the new crossmember. Now the tank bolts up from the bottom into the new crossmember. If tank ever needs to come out, I won't have to remove the wood floor to get to it.

New tube type gas sender came in on Wed 4/15. This sender is made by Classic Instruments, comes in 6" to 15" in length and 4 or 5 different ohm readings. Mine is 7" long and 240/33 ohm's for my gauge. My tank is 8" deep, they don't make a 7-1/2" tube so I had to go with 7". They normally want 1/2" from the bottom. So with my set up even when the gauge reads Empty I will have 2.5 gallons of gas in the tank.

Since I went to all the trouble to fix things, when taking my metal strips out the paint had cracked where the carrage bolts were. So instead of sanding and painting I ordered new Stainless Steel strips. I check with LMC today (placed order on Monday), they are now to a minimum staff and said my order should ship Friday, and I should receive no later that nex Thursday. So now it's the waiting game. Will update you later...Jim

and for LMC, dont feel bad, I am in the same state about 2.5 hours away and sometimes it takes them 4 days to ship my stuff, pandemic or not!
