Got the engine timed

I timed the engine last night to 8 degrees above TDC. Then pulled the plugs, cleaned them and re-installed. I had 4 black ended plugs after all the cranking it took to start the pig.
Now that it's all done, it runs great and idles smooth, but................I have another question

When I throttle it up I have a very small burst of white smoke come out of the top of the carb. Is this normal?? ALso it pops when i let off the gas but i figure thats because I have no exhaust on the thing and have no back pressure.
Any ideas guys?

Finally she's running congrat's.... The small pop's it make's when letting off the gas is from no exhaust no big deal but I would get exhaust on it soon... I am not sure on the white smoke or is it a mist from the carb? Glad you finally got her running .....

Put your exhaust on there,and try giving it a few more degrees on the timeing.My blazer runs best with 12 btdc,and my suburban at 10 btdc.I think I saw where You have HEI?

My Edelbrock carb does the same exact thing, when you give it the go go juice she spits a little white smog but it is normal, it means power!! well thats my theory anyways.

It sounds like you have got it on the run Dubie I agree with smokekiki, play with the timing to find the "sweet spot". i have seen the same stuff, some run better with a little less timing , & some like a little more.....every combo is different. just listen to what that little chev wants....& give it to her! best of luck,crazyL

thisolechevy - hahah i like your theory, i have lots on certain "things" and noises my truck makes....most of them resulting it "yep, must mean lots of power" heh heh heh.

I'm just learning as I go bud I actually kearned how to time the engine from Horsepower TV believe it or not I watched them do a cam swap on an old nomad station wagon and then they showed how to time it with a light. It's so damn easy that it only took me 2 minutes and it was done. Just keep asking questions, even if you think they may seem stupid, ask anything. Thats the only way to learn

Hmmm, did you also learn how to make stupid plays on words, those guys kill me, I'm half tempted to watch it with the volume off, but they do seem to be getting better lately.

Still, rather have them making their stupid comments rather than have no show at all. The do some pretty fun projects.

Glad you've got the timing all set - I will be doing that one of these days if the planets all align and luck is on my side.
