New speedometer cable

I have my dash out and decided to install a new speedometer cable into my 1984 Chevy Silverado with cruise. I was told this might take two parts and some tell me it will only take one cable. Where is the best place to buy a new one and would like it to be a little longer so it will be easy to hook up to the back of my dash gages. Would appreciate any help. The truck is a c-10

Re: New speedometer cable

The two piece cables are for the 68-82ish Cruisemaster transducer based cruise control.

1984 originally has Cruise III with an optical pickup bolted to the back of the speedometer and a cruise control module in the dash area.
The vacuum servo is electronically controlled by the cruise control module in the cab.

There's one cable from the transmission or transfer case to the back of the speed head in 1984.

Re: New speedometer cable

Thanks for the information. I was thinking I had to get the two piece. Now, where is the best place to get one that is a little longer than the OE one?
