3 Point Belt Help
Hi
New to me 70 C10. Inside cab was painted before my tenure. Upper B Pillar hole barely visible I stuck one of those remote scopes up the inner B pillar and here are some pictures. I assume this is the upper seat belt mount? |

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
If memory serves, that is just a plastic plug on the inside of the cab screwed into the recessed mounting point.
The top bolt for the shoulder belt includes the special bolt that attaches to the mounting point. Someone else may chime in..... |

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
Drill into the center, see if it's been bondo'd or welded closed.

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
You got it....I had the plastic plug in mine before I installed 3 point belts.
It was an easy bolt in. Last edited by MySons68C20; 02-24-2020 at 01:40 PM. Reason: mis spelling |

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
That's it, looks to be full of bondo, shouldn't be a huge task to clean out the threads. Trevor

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
Yes mine had plastic cover in it. Somebody may have bondo it up though you never know. The nut is been in every truck I have ever seen though. All three of mine have them.

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
It's always impressed me that they had the thought to include the captive nuts for future use.

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
Does anyone know if these bolts for the three point can be purchased aftermarket? The genius that worked on the cab before I purchsed my 70 decided that some sweet stereo speakers would fit better in that location...I will be filling in the holes and wanted to re-mount a nut to install seat belts.
Is there any other support that should exist inside the cab channel for the seat belt? |

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
I have no idea but would think a nice size washer would add some strength to the wall. As far as mine I buy a grade 8 bolt and use them. Fine thread but don't remember the size right off.

That's a good idea. Anything else I'd be missing?

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
My .02 is that I wouldn't be comfortable with just welding a patch in with a captive nut would not be strong enough.
Here's what I would do. Cut a piece of 1 1/2"? x 1/4" flat stock about 3" longer than the hole is in diameter. Weld a 7/16" nut to the back side of the flat stock and then drill back thru the nut into flat stock the hole correct drill size so you can tap the flat stock the same as the welded nut. Then center the flat stock in the existing (1 1/2") on either side of the big hole. Drill a couple of holes on either side so you can plug weld the flat stock in place. Now you have reinforced the mount just not the welding of the big hole. Then just make a patch to cover up the big hole. Just my .02. |

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
That was my original plan, hence the reason I was asking about any additional stock reinforcement besides just the cage nut welded onto the backside of the cab sheetmetal. It doesn't seem strong enough to hold the potentially violent motion of a seat belt pull.

Re: 3 Point Belt Help
Boy am I lucky no one screwed up my interior sheet metal. Dash is not cut, no crappy speakers in doors or kick panels, and no gun rack holes either...
