I got a new dash pad out of a 72 chevy c20 and was wondering if there is a way to soften it up. Its really brittle.

I have a friend who restores old porsches and he swears by WD40.

I dont think anything will soften it to the point it will be flexible enough not to crack.
I have recovered many dash pads, once they are cracked or brittle, they are toast.

Good info. This dash pad has a few vary small cracks and some worping. I was hoping that maby I could stop it. Sound like its already to late.

No thread is complete with out at least one picture. I used JB 80. Did not have wd 40

Haha its says JB 80 is twice as good as wd40 right on the can I also have liquid wrench and pb blaster.

That's what I was going to say "Twice as good". A man in the know uses 80. WD40 is for the GP

I wonder how a penetrating oil would work. Would it penetrate the pores?

The WD40 or JP80, even the PB Blaster or liquid wrench will DEFINITELY give it that "New Truck" smell!!!

I was thinking that, New truck smell or out in the garage smell? No problem. Any alcohol-based solvent will the residue away

That's what I was thinking. That it would soke into it and maby just maby soften it up just a little bit over time. As for the smell I dont mind it one bit. Anything better then rat nest smell. I did not worry about the oil residue because armor all is just as bad.

Gutless 07 gmc sierra classic rcsb 4.3 lt 5 speed w/t 04 chevy Silverado 1500 ext cab 5.3 4l60e. 81 chevy Scottsdale k10 muncie sm465 Np208 10 bolt 8.2 ( Old Green)
