So, loan is approved, and I am picking it up tonight at 7:00PM!!!
My wife even bought off on it- she knows how much it means to me... Here is a final pic that I had (for the heck of it)-  fresh rebuild TH350, 4.11's, 4" springs, 33's, fresh rebuild 350, double wall top, body is rust free... Whoo eee. |

Well, I picked it up tonight... I am somewhere on cloud nine I think...
It leaks a little more fluid then I remember... Some oils, some trans fluid, some diff fluid... Gonna have to replace some gaskets soon, and the steering is very sloppy too... I think I am going to focus on the cheap but labor intensive gasket replacements first... Here's a quick question- Can I change the oil pan gasket w the motor installed? I haven't got under and looked yet. Just wondering if someone knows. Figure if there is enough room between the pan and the x-member I might be able to do it... Then it's onto poly suspension components and steering linkages (probably steering box too) and steering stabilizer Then it's a thorough brake job Finally new shocks all around Oh, and an exhaust Oh, and then .. uh oh.... My #1 thing is driveability. It looks great, just needs some freshening up. It's fine to drive. It just feels like... well, a 33 year old truck!!!  Pics tomorrow... Stay tuned. |

as for an oil pan gasket, my reccomendation is to go with a one pice, made of the blue rubber stuff, it makes leaks dissapear. and it is a lot easier to put on, it is available at autozone, just make sure you get the right thickness front and rear seals. the thing runs about 30 bucks but is reusable, and saves alot of headache of the cork ones. and, you can change the gasket with your engine in, but you may find it easier to go ahead and diconnect your motor mounts, and the tranny and jack the engine up a few inches (if you have a cherry picker) and pull the pan, this makes it easier to clean off the old cork gasket from the block and the pan. while your doing this you can go ahead and look at the crank and possibly install a new oil pump, just make it so you have one less thing to worry about. sorry for going on and on, but hope it helps
