Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

Here is my 1963, it’s a C50 but still a ‘63!
1963 Chevrolet C50
VIN: 3C523O130813 (DMV has the O as a 0-zero)

3: 1963
C: Conventional
5: 1-1/2 ton
2: “C5203”
3: 3: Cab-Chassis
O: Oakland assembly plant
Serial no. 130813
Starts at 100,001 so #30,813 assembled

VEHICLE RATING PLATE
GVW Rating 16,000 lbs
TRIM: STD
PAINT: SPEC (Caterpillar Yellow)
WB: blank (Wheelbase)
Measures 186” (15’6”)
CA: 72 (Cab-Axle Dimension)

I am 3rd owner of this Oakland truck, was originally a service truck at Caterpillar Tractor in San Leandro, CA (original color “SPEC” Caterpillar Yellow) It had a service body on frame, with PTO run compressor & maybe generator and welder? And of course tool boxes.
According to my neighbor Johnny, the original engine “blew up” so they sold it to his Father in Law (2nd owner) after removing service body and replacing the engine with a rebuilt 283 V8.
Neighbors then painted it green and added a livestock hauling bed/cattle rack with ramp for cattle & horses. You can still see the yellow on a few of the wheels and where the green has flaked off.
It has a big back window which is pretty cool to me

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

Didn't know this thread was out there. Hopefully a new compiled list will get updated.

Here is mine: 3C144S119,873. Another St. Louis truck. It is a little on the younger side for production.

I bought it out of Amarillo TX where it was last titled in 1989. Not sure where it was originally sold.
