Having fun with fender patch panel

Like most C10's my right front fender was rotted out on the bottom from battery acid. So I ordered a fender patch panel to repair the area. When I went to put it in it was about a half inch to narrow. Good thing was the profiles were right so I just sliced and diced it to make it work. A bit of extra work but at least it is solid now.

I have a '68 passenger-side fender that needs that knob. It's Baby Blue. I got it so long ago, it cost me $25.
Meanwhile my Orange '68 Stepside has sported a '71-'72 GMC 2-tone Copper/White fender for 30 years.
[One day, about 29 years ago, I stopped at a light next to a '71 Copper/White GMC sporting a 516 Orange Chevy fender. They couldn't see my Right fender, and got away before I could react.]

Hmmm, not the first time I've seen that, here...Are all those made the same???

Has anybody checked to see if the dimensions are different between the 67-68 + GMC and the 69-72 Chevy fender nose ends?
Could be the earlier type is fatter and they only make the later model part.

Sadly only 1 manufacturer and they are aware of this issue for well over 10 years with no effort to correct. Thankfully at least with some slice & dice action it's easier than having to fabricate the entire part from scratch.

I now understand why everyone says to fix the rust rather than order a reproduction. I ran into the same thing when I worked on the cab. Some of the parts I could have saved some money by making them myself.

Next up hood then passenger door that looks like it got hit about 4 times.
