Is this original?????

Truck in question is my ‘72 K20 Cheyenne with factory AC. All the vacuum tanks I’ve ever seen on these trucks are the round plastic type. This one looks like an old soup can... but, look at the bracket that mounts it to the bracket on the outer housing. It looks almost too good of quality to be a back woods Bubba job. Almost like it was manufactured... did any of these trucks have metal cans? I think I know the answer already but just curious... here’s a few pictures.
Before any one says anything I’m going to replace the rubber fuel hose with stainless and replace the air filter.

I've seen metal "soup" cans used as OEM vacuum reservoirs on many makes of older vehicles. So, I have little doubt that this is original and correct.

I may be incorrect but that looks like the charcoal can that was part of the emissions or smog. I had one or something similar on my 72 custom deluxe back in the day in Ca.

Oh geez....yes its factory, changed to plastic in 1970.

Original can on my '69. However, the steel bracket is 4 wheel drive only (all years?) from what I've read. I have no reason to doubt Randy on when the change to plastic was made, but I have seen them in pictures of later trucks that have been posted. I've been curious about the change to plastic and don't recall this being discussed in an earlier thread.

Its possible 70 used the metal can, i have never seen an original 71 or 72 that had the metal can. 69 for sure is metal.
The assembly manual might show the metal can, not sure. I havent looked at it in yesrs.

Well if there’s a chance it’s original I may just leave it. I bought that plastic tank just because I figured that was what it had originally. I do know it’s got one broken nipple in the rubber plug on the end. Not sure where I’d find those parts?
Here’s another picture from further back.

I wonder if maybe the assembly plant had anything to do with it? It’s a late May/early June 1972 Janesville truck.

Sorry to break the news to you, but that is not an original vacuum can. It's way to big. Here are 2 views of my original.

Cadillac and higher optioned cars used the bigger cans cause they had more options that used vacuum.

Ford F150s had the stewed charcoal caninsters all the way into the 90’s.

That's a coffee can. The earlier GM Trucks used nut cans. LUVs used soup cans

I never paid any mind to which got what but I've always seen the plastic on 71/72s.
