Re: 67-72 Rear Sliding Window Identification ???

Thanks for the info . I cannot really see the screws as I was able to remove the whole thing in one piece with the rubber gasket. It does have the stainless around it . Was a job to get out in one piece . Can't imagine what it was like installing.

Re: 67-72 Rear Sliding Window Identification ???

I know a factory slider meant stainless trim got deleted. Is there a SPID with the truck? Either the slider was added or someone changed the gasket back to one with stainless.

Re: 67-72 Rear Sliding Window Identification ???

If you were able to remove the slider it shouldn’t be problematic to move the gasket slightly askance to see if those screws are there vs welds holding the halves of the frame together. The logo should be visible and would contain a date code even if not oem.

Tim has a good point.

Re: 67-72 Rear Sliding Window Identification ???

I removed everything as one piece by carefully working my way around the gasket. This left the stainless in the gasket and the slider also in the gasket .

I just tried prying the gasket out at the corners to see if screws were present. Because of the stainless still present I cannot get it pried out far enough to see if screws are present . I was hoping I would not have to dis assemble farther as it is a nice way to handle and store . I will try to get a better look when I have a little extra time.

I did find an old post from 2007 that stated they could come with or without stainless trim .

From the factory, I don’t believe that is correct. No stainless rear trim for sliders has been my understanding.

Re: 67-72 Rear Sliding Window Identification ???

Thanks . I just do not mess with these trucks very often. Most of my experience comes from the earlier trucks.

Most of the trucks that I own are low mileage originals but from 66 on down. When I have a question about what is correct I can usually walk over and take a look. Almost all have original paint.

Here is on I wish I owned . The rear slider appears to match the one I own but not real close photos. What a great reference truck.

Re: 67-72 Rear Sliding Window Identification ???

I knew a guy who worked at the Baltimore plant who pointed out the windows were installed by vendors on the lot after they came off the assembly line and they used the standard gasket. So the trucks came through the line with no back window. Gasket was probably placed into the cab. Other than hear-say on how it was done at one plant, all the trucks I have owned have proven that to be true. I always looked for original paint unmolested trucks, they came from various plants, and I've observed a lot of trucks owned by others.

My present truck (Freemont/standard gasket) came with the option. The latch was broken plus the rubber parts and fuzzies were shot, so I swapped in one I bought in '88 for another truck. It looks as original in there as the original did. It has a chrome metal latch like yours. I'll see if it says Prestige. I know I've seen or had trucks with that before.
