White Grease

I have my option on the best White Grease.

I want to get a large pool of what people think is the best white grease for hood hinges, door hinges, etc... on these older Chevy Trucks to know I did not leave a stone unturned

Re: White Grease

Lubriplate makes a good lithium grease. I like to use either motor oil or Marvels Mystery Oil for oiling hindges. Rusted stuff gets Marvels, Automatic Trans fluid, and Acetone, It works better than anything other than Kroil.

Re: White Grease

I'm with Ironangel. Oil for hinges. It penetrates better and is easier to clean up the excess. The other bad side effect of Lithium grease is that it is hard on plastic and rubber. So watch the overspray.

I quit using white grease a few years ago. After dismantling a few trucks where it had obviously been used for years (especially window risers and door latches) it was either a gummy mess or hard as a rock. In this day and age there are a lot better lubricants than that. Graphite is another one to avoid, especially in speedometer cables and locks.... If I need something greased i use wheel bearing grease and for stuff like hinges I use Liquid Wrench Lubricating oil or regular motor oil. For the more delicate things like locks and upper steering column I use a penetrating oil with Teflon in it like ZEP 45nc.

Just my 2¢ worth.

I always thought lithium or white grease is the plastic safe choice. I use regular general purpose grease when assembling hinges, then switch to oil to keep them lubricated.

I like PB Blaster lithium grease for latches because it will penetrate between tight pivoting parts and not run off like oil. I agree, it might harden, but by then, I will have removed the part, clean all the old grease off and reapplied.

Re: White Grease

The problem with Lithium grease and plastic or rubber components is that in its most basic form Lithium is basically inert when applied to them. The problem starts with the additives that get added to make Lithium grease have more uses. Then it gets worse when it is put into an aerosol form. The solvents that make it sprayable are bad for plastic and rubber.
The spray form of Lithium grease is probably the most popular but also the most likely to damage other components. So the grease gets an OK for plastic and rubber but then all of the additives don't which can make it a crap shoot as not all documentation (i.e. the interweb) will show it as degrading to plastic and rubber.

Re: White Grease

I like Tri-Flow clear synthetic Grease. It does not cake up like white or classic greases and is safe on most rubber & plastic.

https://www.triflowlubricants.com/pr...thetic-grease/

Their liquid Tri Flow Superior Lubricant in the drip bottle is excellent for hinge pins, tools, bikes, guns etc.

Super Lube Silicone Lubricating with Syncolon (PTFE) is another good one. It does not cake up and is safe on plastics & rubber.

Re: White Grease

I use Kroil penetrating oil on my locks and my hinges. Never had any issues.

Re: White Grease

I just took apart an HVAC actuator on my 2002 Yukon. The gears are plastic and the factory used white lithium grease on them.

I like Lubriplate. But I agree that it's difficult to get it into tight spots.

I am pretty sure that GM uses PTFE grease in those stupid actuators.
