Where was your K model 4wd pickup assembled?

Taking a poll to determine which GM assembly plants built “K” pickups (not Blazers, Jimmys, or Suburbans) and of these what the rough percentages are/were. From the poll, please select where your K pickup(s) were assembled. You may select more than one plant if applicable but unfortunately if you have multiple examples only one “vote” can be applied. If you have more than one pickup from the same plant please indicate that in a reply.

Omitting K5s because if included the results may skew the poll as regards pickups. All first gen K5s were assembled at one of two plants: St Louis or Flint. Unsure about Suburbans so figure better to handle these separately.

Pete, I voted Janesville for my K20. My K10 which I’m not able to vote on is a Fremont truck. Larry, click the dot by your plant, then click submit vote. (or some similar verbiage) the submit button should be on the lover right side of the poll box if I’m not mistaken.

Another K1500 from Fremont. Lived most of it's life in southern Nevada, some time in Idaho, then the last 6 years in Indiana.

You can select more than one plant when you vote if you have K pickups from different plants. Each individual plant can only receive one vote per person however. Not a perfect system but curious to see what the proportions look like. Thanks for voting.

You will find the most are from Fremont because most that came out of there survived due to being sold almost exclusively to the dry salt-free western states. It could be most were built there, but this poll could be more accurately defining which plant has the most survivors. Of course, it should show which plants produced them and which did not.

The last three K/20s I've owned were Fremont and so is my '72 K2500. All lived their prior lives from the Rockies west. I'm not sure on all the others. I wonder where most of the east Coast Ks were built. My Fremont trucks I "imported". I saved some titles and sold the trucks on a duplicate, if I had a chance before selling to do that. I'll check my files

Just voted in the poll, my 71 K-10 was built in St. Louis. Was really rough when I bought it and replaced a lot of sheet metal which at the time I was fortunate to still be able to obtain from salvage yards. Only piece I replaced which was a re-production was the tail gate. Could not find a decent one locally and bought one from GMC Paul. Very satisfied with it thru the years.

I do believe your probably on to something there as far as survival rates. I just checked my dads Spid, his K20 is a Baltimore build. He got it 8 or 10 years ago from a guy in Point of Rocks. You never know for sure but it’s probably a decent chance that ones been in the mid Atlantic all it’s life.
If I had thought about it when I voted for my K20, I would have voted for my K10 and his K20 as well. I actually had to look at the title on my K10 because I didn’t even know.

I did consider that those shipped out to the rust belt would be underrepresented in the poll but it is what it is after 50 years. I've never seen many Baltimore builds and not sure I've ever seen an Atlanta built K pickup.

Looked it up: Janesville. Don't know where it was originally sold, but I bought it in KS in 1993.

Had some free time and made a map with the assembly plant locations. I wanted to see how they were distributed throughout the states. It is interesting to me that all the plants except Fremont and St Louis, are east of the Mississippi River. With St Louis plant being less then 5 miles west of the Mississippi River.

I wasn't sure that Baltimore built Ks. Never thought about whether some did and some didn't since 4wds were much less prevalent those days.

I found three old titles to Ks I've owned... 2 from St Louis and one from Tarrytown. These were local trucks here in MD. Off topic, but I have the title to the ochre & white '71 Cheyenne Custom Camper I had that I bought in PA I was the second owner of. It was a Fremont truck sold back East.

I’ve got vague recollections of a bronze k20 w buckets that was a Baltimore build. I can’t recall a Tarrytown - can’t be many of those left.

Did plants service defined geographic areas? That seems to be a reasonable conclusion and if so where were the boundaries? Would also seem reasonable to build close to demand, ex Fremont for K pickups.

My Flint K20 was sold new in Colorado Springs. My old K1500 was also Flint built and sold new in Valier, MT.

Basically, plants served their region, but there are cases where trucks were located and shipped, usually dealer to dealer for something special. I would assume my Fremont '71 camper was not from the original owner, as I understood, but the title went back to new. I suppose it is possible the previous owner moved to PA at some point from a western state. Funny I bought that truck in '88 and just learned it was built in Fremont due to this thread. Maybe in all that time I knew then forgot

Scot's (My son in law) 70 K10 was built in Janesville. You can add that to the tally.

Same here. I used to have people all the time asking if I converted my trucks to 4wd. Said they never knew they made 4wds back then. This was late-'70s talking about my 71/72s. They got educated all the way back to Pontiac V8 powered/automatic transmission '50s GMC NAPCOs. I'm still learnin'

My 72 K10 is a Fremont truck came from New Mexico to Mi in 08 I picked it up in 10 as a failed project
