Header install help

I was trying to install some Jegs brand long tube headers (not my first choice, but its what i got at the moment) on my 69 sbc 307 and ran into the problem around the z bar. Passenger side went in pretty easy (just had to remove the starter to get it in there) but the drivers side wont sit down b/c of the original clutch linkage. I've read in other posts that folks have had to make several mods to the z bar and bar to make it work. I am trying to understand how i do that without destroying the linkage and making my clutch inoperable.

Or do I dimple the header as another option? trying to do what would be least path of resistance at this point until i can get some really good headers.

Re: Header install help

Its the wrong set of headers
I have two sets one hooker the other headman both are for manual transmission c/k 67 72 trucks

They design the header around the zbar clearance for a true bolt in fitment

I would see if you could dimple the header tube before zbar changes

they dont make a new zbar but they do make new headers

Re: Header install help

Personally i would sell that set and post up wanted ad on cl and other facebook etc for 67 72 headers
Or just sell to offset cost of new headers

I did the homemsde zbar route with a six cylinder install was not satisfied with it and it took many attempts to fit in working form

Summit has them for 250 for the headman set

Re: Header install help

What gmc684x4 said. Header dimples won't hurt anything. Where as tweaked clutch linkage is likely going to cause problems down the road. There is a lot more torque on the clutch linkages than you would think.

Re: Header install help

Thanks Guys! I may just have to go that route, i really dont want to mess with original stuff where possible - it works fine as is and really dont want to mess up the linkage.

I guess im lanking them suckers out and ordering some new ones.

Re: Header install help

gmc684x4 that link you posted for summit. those headers will actually bolt right now to my 69 sbc with manual trans? Trying to avoid time delays and head aches with returns, etc.

Much appreciate your help!

Re: Header install help

i appreciate it man. thats the same thing i did and now im hosed with a pair that i cant use. maybe ill get lucky and someone will want to buy them. Its funny that summit still tells me that 69230 does not fit my 69 c10 307 with manual trans. I really hope their indexing is just wrong. Will order them next month.

I just realized that these are for 4WD. I have the RWD base, not sure these will actually work. hmmm...

Re: Header install help

Thanks gmc684x4! I gave them a call and they confirmed that I should be looking at the hedman headers part# 69092. Should have just called them in the first place and purchased these way back when...the more you know i guess.
