Today I fixed something that has been bugging me for months - the brake lights kept getting stuck on. I got in a habit of pulling the pedal up with my other foot, but one night I forgot and drained the battery. The switch bracket was bent, the threads on the switch were messed up, and the pedal was adjusted past where the spring would return. I bent the bracket back, got a new switch, pedal adjustment, and problem solved!

The center console I built was too tall, so I cut it down a few inches. I like this better.

In other news, the brake lights still get stuck on. It happens after driving, but I cannot make it happen in my driveway. This is a very annoying problem.

Brake lights sticking on - the rod that goes into the booster does not release when driving. If I pull the check valve on the booster it still does not release. The return spring is strong. I can't see anything binding or rubbing in the linkage. I cannot duplicate the issue in my driveway even with the engine running. Any thoughts?

No clue, my only suggestion is to lube all pivot points. My 97 has a strange similar problem. I noticed it last night. The trucks park haven't driven it in hours. I looked out and the brake lights or on then off then on and off. I disconnected the battery so I could sleep.

I don't know where the old useless mirror came from, but it was barely hanging on. My new passenger convex mirror arrived yesterday. What a nice improvement.

LMC, about $40. It was backordered when I got the driver side. I read that the regular flat passenger side mirrors are not good for much more than plugging the holes in the door.

My truck died on me five or six times today in line at the dump, and ran like garbage all the way home. It would barely idle, and was really rough trying to accelerate. Temp and oil gauges were reading fine. For some reason I suspect the torque converter, but that could be totally wrong. I'll look at it closer in the morning.

Don't feel bad, Blue vapor locked at the dump. It was 105* and the gauges read fine. I had to wait an hour for it to start. Maybe yours was trying to vapor lock.

It was my understanding that the return fuel line (which this truck has) prevented vapor lock. Maybe my fuel pump is bad? I drove it around the block and it ran a little rough but didn't die. I have a suspicion that I messed something up when I replaced the exhaust manifolds. I should pull the spark plugs but it is too hot and smoky out to work on it now.

How close are your fuel lines to the exhaust or any other area that generates a ton of heat? What was the weather like and what kind of driving were you doing, were you idling A long time?

Yes, I was idling for a long time waiting in line. It might be the new metal fuel feed & filter running too close to the intake under the carburetor.

I'm thinking a 1" phenolic 4-hole carb spacer would help, and/or replace that feed line with rubber hose.

I tossed a 1" phenolic carburetor spacer on. I hope it solves the vapor lock issue.

Somehow my front driveline is bent. I have not used the 4wd except a trip around the neighborhood (where I immediately noticed a shake). Maybe I just didn't notice when I took it in, but I would be surprised if the shop I paid would put new U-joints in a bent driveline. I did not replace the cardan joint at the same time (and probably should have). This driveline was also about 3/4" longer than the other one that was on the truck when I got it.
