66 gmc family build

So I’m workin on a 66 panel that has had windows cut into it when new. It was used as a schoolbus that my father in law drove and my wife actually rode to school in. Not the way i wanted to keep it but its got sentimental value to my wife and father in law as thats how they remember it. So who am i to argue. Could still be cool once it’s painted. Someone hammered the rear tubs flat to mount seats. So thats what im up to right now. Then repaint the inside and send it back to the bodyshop. Rebuilt the stock 250 and have new front floors installed so far.

Welcome to the sickness! Looks like a great project too.
Tell me how you did the lizard skin in the front please?
I think you can take the inner fenders out and hammer them straight

Re: 66 gmc family build

That part was sprayed in the bodyshop after floors installed. Looks realy good though. Should stop any future rust. Has anyone ever taken the rear wood out of a suburban? Is it hard?

Can't be any harder than a fleet-side.
Nice work so far though, keep us posted this is turning out great.

The body has to be removed from the chassis. The plywood sheet is sandwiched between the two.

Re: 66 gmc family build

Thanks for posting those Aotte!

I am guessing this was a suburban that had the sliding track system and not the bolt down cleats.

Re: 66 gmc family build

I cleaned the inside and painted it. Then stained the wood black. I like how it came out

Re: 66 gmc family build

Well finally back from bodyshop after a long wait. Now assembly. Realizing the parts I thought were ok to reuse look pretty bad next to the new paint.

Re: 66 gmc family build

The green is KK, 1966 code. The white is dover white code 50. Thats the z28 stripe color from my 69 camaro. Liked it cause it’s not so bright white. I’m really happy with the colors.

Congrats on a one-of-a-kind burb, I really like the three window setup on this burb. You've done an outstanding job on it so far and the paint and color combo looks great!

Re: 66 gmc family build

Great looking truck!

I'd really like to see pics with the glass installed.

You wrote the plywood was two pieces. Did you still have to take the body off the frame to remove it?
