dish soap and fresh bulbs
I recently disassembled my gauge cluster and cleaned it. Nothing crazy, just Dawn dish soap, water and some fresh 168 bulbs.
WOW!!! I can read my gauges! I would have included a "before" pic... but it would have just been a black picture. Why did I take so long to do this?

Re: dish soap and fresh bulbs
Not to jack this thread, but something I noticed on mine. I can see all the gauges ok at night but I also see the right blinker indicator some. Not full bright like when blinking but I see it. I have never seen the inside of a cluster is it light from another gauge leaking over?
Yours look great! |

Re: dish soap and fresh bulbs
This is on my to do list. Not sure how far down, but it is on the list.
Happy Dan - For lack of a better description, there is a tube that isolates the turn signal indicators from the rest of the cluster. Sounds like yours might be deteriorated, shifted, etc. if light is leaking through. There is a gauge cluster master that can probably give more details.

Re: dish soap and fresh bulbs
That makes sense. Thank you. I don't want to take it apart as the truck is in really good condition and I know what happens when I start taking things apart! Been there, done that. LOL. I'll focus on seals and gaskets to engine this winter.

Turn your lights on and give your turn signals a good check before you tear in to the cluster. |

From the knowledge I've gained on this site, it seems many of our truck's electrical gremlins, especially lighting, can be attributed to poor grounds.

BTW Greasey, the cluster looks great! I'm sure mine could use the same!

Re: dish soap and fresh bulbs
Update on the blinker being lit when I turn the lights on.
I finally got my engine back together and in the truck and it's all back together and ready to drive. I found out that the right side parking/blinker bulb (1157) was out. That is why the right blinker was lit on the dash. Replaced it today and the light is out and blinker works fine! Sometimes it's just the simple things that make us happy. I am happy! |
