Re: 68 Shortbed

Sorry to hear that. Sadly we hear of this sort of thing more and more these days. Some even happens between our forum members. First one there with the cash seems to be the rule.

Sadly ones word doesn't mean that much anymore. I guess I am just more old school. Your word is your honor. He could have been up front about it and we could have taken it from there. It is what it is.

Bummer for sure but you you have the itch and are more knowledgeable than before (not that that helps).
They are getting tougher to find but keep your eyes out and you will find one.

Re: 68 Shortbed

Man, I hate to hear that. I sold a truck recently and I agreed on a price before the guy came to take a look at it. I had 6-7 more inquiries after the agreement that lead me to believe I could have gotten about $1000 more for the truck. No matter, my integrity is worth more than $1000.

Now, the guy did try to get me down another $500 when he came to look at the truck to which I replied that it was my bottom dollar because folks really were standing in line to look at it. I even went out of my way to let all the others know I sold it.

Just stinks as I have had it happen to me before. That's the reason I get no emotional involvement until the deal is done.

Re: 68 Shortbed

Sorry to hear that it was sold out from under you. But untill everything is signed and the truck is at your place its really never a done deal.

Only happened to me once truck posted in the craigslist thread agreed on the price told the guy I'd be leaving a few days later to come and get it I had to get my trailer from my brother in law so I even offered to send a deposit via venmo or PayPal. He said not necessary called the morning I was leaving . He sold it the day before.

To make it clear it wasnt a member here

Don't you ever change! There is still a whole bunch of us "old school" folks out here that seal a deal with our word and a handshake! Bummer about the truck, but I'm betting something else will come your way! Fingers crossed for ya'.

Re: 68 Shortbed

Too bad about that deal gone sour.

Last summer I bought an enclosed trailer off Craigslist. This seller, who was a cop and I agreed on a price and that I would pick it up early the next day. Apparently his wife thought he was selling it too cheap and listed it on Marketplace that night. The guy said he had his phone ringing off the hook but lucky for me, honored our agreement.

Re: 68 Shortbed

Back in 1991 I offered two grand more for a all original short bed two wheel drive 327 4 barrel auto, cherry original beautiful green exterior white bumper truck. My neighbor back then told me about it and seeing it out there for months for sale, let's just say I went a little nuts on him for not telling me any sooner, he knew my passion for these trucks. I got direction and within fortyfive minutes I was there in his
driveway drooling while getting out of my 68 truck. The owner step out to said hi and that the truck was just sold the new owner who just left leaving a two hundred down payment. He sold it like two hours ago for four thousand, I immediately said I'd give him a thousand more, he said he can't do that the kid gave him a down payment than I said two thousand more, had him thinking and he said no I can't the kid left me a down payment, a man of his word for sure, I was bummed but I understand. Then I was even more pissed at my neighbor when the seller said only a few people came to look at the truck and it was sold a few hours before I arrived. Man it was a beautiful truck.

Thanks. I'll keep looking. After trying to buy it for seven months then finally making a deal then falling through it has bummed me out a little. I will continue looking though.
