Help with alternator

I am lost! I am restoring my 70 C10 with 350. I am installing an American Autowire Classic Update harness in the truck and the wiring is for a modern alternator with internal voltage regulator. I don't know what kind of alternator to buy. Please help! I would appreciate feedback from people that have used the same harness kit. Thanks!

You mean a internal voltage regulator .

You need to get one that is designated for a V-8 engine & mounting on the correct side that you have. They all have about the same mounting but they are clocked for the terms. to be in the best position.

It will be using 73 up c10 alternator in a 10 or 12 si configuration

If you want to step up from the si to a cs alternator nappa has a ec82 adapter plug kit with resistor

As for the cs 130 and 144 i am not sure which vehicle work with v belt setups both i have are from a 92 and a 99 trucks setup for serpentine belt

Personally i went with the CS130 as was upgrading to efi as well and wanted the cleanest power supply heres what i used and also the link to the thread
Thanks Dave 12 for starting and Dmjlambert, VetteVet, Vince1, Gmachinz , enjoying everyones input and gave me the direction I want to do in my 1970 C10 CST alternator upgrade,
im gonna go with ACDelco 3351011 cs130 this already has vpulley mounted
ACDelco PT2145, hopefully resistor correct

now I am assuming this comes with a big enough resistor already in place, if someone knows for sure please chime in

I used the ACDelco PT2145 adapter for my CS144 alternator, and it appears to be enough resistance and works well. It is 510 ohms. I suspect it will work for you.

Rather than start a new thread, I'll add to this one. My '68 GMC K2500 is used almost exclusively as a snow plow and firewood truck. It has a 350 with 10si alternator. The alternator does not keep up during intensive plowing sessions. Lots of up and down, right and left with the plow, plus the extra lights, heater etc. runs the battery down enough that if you stall the engine it won't restart. I'm planning to upgrade to a 12si. I've read the other threads on alternator upgrades, but I'm having a little trouble determining what, if anything, I need to do besides the alternator itself. I'm also seeing 12si alternators (not genuine AC Delco) advertised with 140 amp output. Wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

The general consensus on the hot rodded SI alternators is that they will work but they have two short comings. One is the Chinese components used for the regulator. The second is heat failures. The cooling system for the alternator doesn't get upgraded and the units end up running too hot if they are putting out high amperage for extended periods. Running hot with substandard components isn't a good combination. Personally I would determine the amperage drawn you require and go 20% above that with a different factory alternator.

I have installed Powermaster 10SI units in both my 72 and in an 81 CJ7. Both due to adding fuel injection and wanting more stable voltage. I have had good luck with both. The stock Jeep 37A Delco unit wouldn't even run my heater after putting a bigger heater motor in.

Also, I had to re-clock both of them, which is not hard to do.
