Motorhome steering box interchangeable?

So yesterday I found a motorhome with a tilt column. While grabbing the column I noticed hydro boost and a familiar looking steering box... the steering box looked identical to the Saginaw boxes on the 10-30 series trucks, however it was mounted at a more vertical angle than the 10-30 series trucks. The motor home said it had 27,000 miles and I believe it, it also looked to be a mid-late 80’s vintage. I’d like to grab it since it’s likely to be a quicker ratio.

Wanting to know if those steering boxes are interchangeable with the c10-30 series frames or if they differ in some way?

Why not they’re trucks aren’t they? probably the best way to figure it out is to find out what chassis the motorhome was on I have had a couple of motorhomes and I have seen them lined up at the motorhome manufacturers as they come from the dealer class A steering column instrument panel wiring harness all goes to whatever the truck was just no body Or if it’s a class C which is the front cab of a van that would be the easiest to figure out

I’m not sure what all the class’s mean... but it looked like a 1 ton Chevy frame. It was like an “allergo” brand motorhome and not the conversion van style. Just wanting to know if there’s any interchangeability on the boxes.

Re: Motorhome steering box interchangeable?

The upper input shaft is different on the P series trucks which that probably is. The fittings for the hose hookup are different on the newer ones then the older ones.
The rest will interchange but I dought if the ratio is quicker.

The reason I said "A Motorhome" is, what motorhome? What make, Model etc. The options are pretty varied in the parts department. You might have seen one thing and someone else is thinking another because there was nothing identified. Just trying to help get you in the right direction.

Re: Motorhome steering box interchangeable?

Some of those turn the opposite direction that a C/K steering box does. If the steering box is mounted somewhat vertical with the pitman arm towards the rear, pointing down, it will turn the opposite of what you need.
